Well, went through all of my b&w Trolloween photos and scanned them in. Looks like I may be able to pull an extra 22 images off the negatives in addition to the 17 or so from the 1st time I scanned. Did I mention I love my film scanner. This is the first one I've pulled into PS, cleaned up and toned. Gonna take me a few days to work on all of these. -=>Donald

this is a good one!, i'd try & get as much outta the dif. combo. of textures here & clean up the black a bit more, but then that's just me :) hope you're feeling better!

Misha - Thank you. I totally missed this one the first time through. Dunno why I didn't see it. Cyn - I was thinking the same thing when I looked at this again this morning. I find it so hard to clean up stuff on b&w photos (more so than with color photos), but I'll try. Don't want to lose any detail in the mids. Should be a little easier with this one though. -=>Donald

Cyn - Ok...used a layering technique to get rid of the noise in the blacks. What do you think? Feeling tired enough to go back to sleep now...ahhh, can't believe how hard I use to fight as a kid not to sleep; now I fight just as hard trying to get a little of it. :) -=>Donald

Richard, you are daft! the blacks looks much better Donald! (the yellowish tint is more your style, personally I like whiter tint) Looks good to me! :)

sorry blush

Hahaha....well, at least you were close. :) I know how it is with names. Hmm ... I dunno. I don't usually add or subtract from the main subject(s). I'll do it to clean up my backgrounds and that's usually about it. I also don't even wanna think about how hard it woul dbe to work in between the fine strands of her scarf-thingie. Cyn - Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to clean it up. Luckily the tone of the noise in the black was not contained all that much in anything else. Actually, I am going to have to break away from that yellowish-brown tint in non-Trolloween images. Kind of got stuck on it. I originally used it to tie all of the Trolloween photos together, and I like the way it looks on them. But I need to leave it there and not carry it over into my other photos. Think I've gotten a little lazy. I think the next thing I will be doing is coming up with a whole set of toning parameters to match traditional toning. Maybe that'll snap me out of it. -=>Donald

Now Im blushing like a beacon... Wrong name and a daft idea... DOH! sorry Donald I go and hide back under my rock

No problem. No idea is daft when you're trying to help someone out. That's why I post these here, to learn and see things from other people's perspective. Even if I don't agree with it, the comments are really appreciated. -=>Donald

>coming up with a whole set of toning parameters I generally use a method similar to that given in this link. It's the best procedure I've found, but even it has some shortcomings. [You can use other colors than sepia; a nice purple works well to simulate selenium.] Still, this method is not perfect. I've yet to simulate a platinum print, for example. If you come up with some good techniques, please do a tutorial for Michelle and Star.
