Subject: Thoughts on tris

For most of you experianced users out there im wondering what your thoughts are on using tris in your models im not talking about all tris but at what cost do you go to avoid them ! im used to hearing only use quads but ive found strateigcly placed tris can be benificial

i'd agree trav....i might not be "experienced" but well placed tri's have their niche such as at the ends of horns, claws, etc. only real bitch i have about them is when you sub-patch you get something like a "ripple" on the surface where the tri meets the edge of a quad.....other than that well placed tris are just peachy in my opinion reverend judas

Tri's offer better control of the surface. The "ripple" effect can be adjusted by turning some edges here and there. And it doesn't actually matter that much, since textures make the corners blend. You don't need extra polies, just a good texture =)

lol ive always said a great texture artist can make the worst model look good ;)
