Subject: A Hall of Shame

Just an aside to all the action in regard to the piece of distended rectum in Spain, but, perhaps it is time for a few forums such as Renderosity to inaugurate a "Hall of Shame." Administered responsibly and seriously, this gallery would be reserved to post the name, handle, email address and any other pertinent information on such scum-sucking, puke-laden, pus-filled bottom-feeders as our friend in Spain. I mention this since it is used by a number of others. A number of shareware communities have such "rogues galleries." And by mentioning their ISP carrier if such carrier has refused to act as part of that particular thief's "file" has had a tendency to make life a bit more difficult for some of the more brazen thieves and pirates. Will it end such piracy or theft? Of course not. But it will bring more pressure to bear on the enemy. Afterall, who really wants a "cyber scarlet letter" on their face? How many companies will employ a known thief? And word does spread quickly on the net community. How many people will actually do business with someone who has already been branded and identified as a thief? Would YOU send YOUR credit card information to such a person? It is an option I believe should be considered. It is one more "weapon."

I totally agree, I support this idea 120%. A hall of shame is greatly needed in this community. I understand that we are all pretty forgiving and usually give people quite a few chances to make up for bad moments, however this guy will never be back on our good side and I think I speak for just about everyone here. He would be a WONDERFUL first addition to the hall of fame. Besides, Blacklisting him will make it much more difficult to pull his crap and much easier for us "artists" to identify what we consider to be blatantly ignorant thieves. This is a strong community who from what I can tell carries a very close bond (as far as internet communities go), and we could easily form and keep up a hall of shame. I put forth a vote and request to Renderosity to create this forum and I myself would gladdly step forward as one of the moderators. Casamerica, thankyou for you suggestion I hope, as you do, that this forum can be created! Have a good one! Schnaps

As a professional in the internet field I would support this in any way I could - but the administrator of sucha section would have to be VERY diligent in investigating complaints.

When I read this article, I don't understand who that guy in Spain is. What did he do and why should he be in the hall of shame? Did he steal something or did he do crappy work?

I think the key to all of this may be posting information on the thiefs ISP carriers as casamerica suggested. If an individual will not change his stance maybe pressure on his carrier will. Getting a bad name is bad for most kinds of business and that is of concern to carriers. Has anyone thought of discussing this with or contacting the BSA (Business Software Alliance, www.bsa.org/). While they are primarily concerned with anti-piracy action on behalf of commercial software makers, they may be able to help or offer advice in this area. After all theft of copyright materials and licence violations are the same whether the material is commercial or not.

He took meshes from both Poser itself, Zygote and al whole bunch of free (but still copyrighted stuff) from tons of places. He then converts them to some other format and sells them. It's like taking the contents of a book and printing them on a different color paper.. and then saying all your doing is converting it to a different color so people can read it like a whole new book. Esentially the guy is a thief.

DoocesWild22 ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2000 at 7:59 PM

People actually paid for that free stuff?

Ikyoto ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2000 at 10:01 PM

There are a lot of people who don't knwo where to get stuff for free... and this parasite makes money off of them.

Let me state that I agree with Ikyoto, this would have to be done diligently and responsibly. It could not be used as a club for grudges or such. It should be reserved for instances, such as this, where the evidence is so overwhelming that even a politician would have to admit that it was factual and where the alleged thief has had the opportunity and time, as in this case, to make amends or defend his/her case. And in those instances where there is doubt, the benefit of the doubt would have to go on the side of the alleged thief. Not a perfect solution, but, there are a lot of instances where the case is, in fact, overwhelming and at least those blatant, lower than whale$&!+ bottomfeeders would be revealed for what they are. As requested by Renderosity, I sent the little bugger an email. It calmly (at least for me) pointed out that, at best, his "converted" models were "derivative works." And derivative works are specifically mentioned in the copyright law as falling under protection for the owner of the original copyrighted work. In other words, your model can only be used in derivative works with your permission regardless of whatever format it is converted to. But, I am sure he already knew that. By the way, his works are exhibited by some online galleries. I have begun emailing them, telling them what he has done and requesting that they remove his work. If you see his renderings anywhere, tell the gallery owner what he has done and request that they show support for honest artists by removing his material. With that, I think I've probably spouted off enough about the matter. Take care.
