Everytime I try to add a hair layer and use the smudge tool it makes a shadow of black with the color. Does anyone else have this problem? I've even tried reinstalling Adobe and it still won't work! :( If anyone can help me with this it'd be appreciated. Attached is what it looks like when i try to smudge.

Is your hair on a separate layer? and is the setting for normal, dark, or light?

It's probably from the transparent layer....When ever I smudge too much past the line of color I'll either get white or black... Best way to get rid of it is to erase it with a clean line and use a samller smudge brush, and try not to go to far outside the line or set the smudge to high... I never work with the transparency box in.....I usually just do a quick close clean up with the eraser

I've tried it set at normal, then darken - and it still does that. The hair is on a seperate layer. I've even tried it on the same layer. :P BUT - I got desperate yesterday and did a search. I found an adobe page specifically for the technical problem I was having. I downloaded the update and now it works . Thanks for all your help! I'll let you know if it acts up again :
