First: P5 doesn't have a problem with V3 if you install V3 in the P5 directories. If you do for some reason have problems, Daz's tech support is the best. Second: V2 and V3 are both pretty cool. There's a ton of stuff available for V2 since she's been out for while. Very little available for V3, but that will change. V3 is higher resolution, more morphs, and lots more variations than V2. However, V2 isn't too shabby herself, although for posing and variations, V3 definitly has her beat. Third: V3 uses added on morphs to get the variations. You'll want to pick up the morph packages for her if you get her. Face, body, and male if you want him, are all sold seperatly. V2 comes complete. If I were new to Poser, I'd buy V2 with the clothing pack on CD. It's $69 and comes with hair, texture, and cloths. Sort of a complete package to get you started. It's a pretty good deal, and you'll have fewer options to learn. Plan on getting V3 later once you're familiar with V2. You'll be able to get it at the upgrade price.

I bought V3 and love her/it. Lots of morphs and Hi-res. I should have signed up for the $99 platinum level though at DAZ becasue I've spent more than that on the downloads. I'm past the point of no return now. You may want to consider that.
