Subject: Welcome to the Challenge Areana

Hi All, welcome everyone to the new Challenge Arena, Well.. we can approach this from different angles. For now I suppose we can keep this non specific as far as applications go. we will be implimenting forms to fill out for the challenges to keep it better organized, and give more information agout what apps. we have available to us . this is so we can Talor the Challenges more effectively. for noe Why dont those who want to participate, reply to this thread and say so . and maybe provide any other helpfull information reguarding your limitations as far as apps. go I was thinking maybe a Triangle group. a typical challenge might go like this: My Challenge is to Boney. Theme:Exodus" Apps: any available Pre/Post work : okay Must use 2 booleans( Because I know he has Bryce) and Two original textures. as many Poser charecters as needed. other Impoted Models: Not allowd and any other specifications you may have. Now..Boney would then Challenge another Artist with his guidlines setup, lets Say Rosh . Rosh would then challenge Me with his theme and specs,to complte the triangle. This way ,many Challenges are going on simutainiously(SP)nad other triangle groups would be going on at the same time. This is in the interest of keeping a "Flow" in the gallery. OR... we could do it another way ,like in the newsgroup I frequent,we have a project spearheaded by Darren Chapman in which there is one weekly theme and everybody does there own version of it . and have the option to share files and work as groups on the same project(files could get big though) I s'pose what would be nice is to see us working together on these projects, wether it's tutoring someone on a particular technique or method,or by actually shareing files. i'm way open for suggestions. so lets get this off the ground Folks. It's "Our" forum and We need eachother to make it happen. So lets here some suggestions okay Again ..Thanks for Participating. Hawkfyr

I like both ideas alot. The first is more personal, as you have to know someone to really put the challenge to them. But the second one gets everyone working on the same thing. And the real fun part is seeing what everyone does within the challenge restrictions/limitations. No reason we coulden't do both really. Set like 3 big projects for the month, and then we can have the triangles going on at the same time.

Cool Idea's. I'll be interested to see how this progresses. -Phoenix

What might be needed is from anyone interested is a quick list of the software each of you have so when a challenge is made it can be towards the software you have and use. GeorgeD

Hmmm...I think for now I will sit on the sidelines and cheer loudly..... Scarab <-(thought Booleans were those aliens who tried to trap the Enterprise in an energy web....or was that Tholian?)

The shared files idea, well, I have this basic problem with downloading or uploading a file that could go from 25 megs up to 75 megs lol. What might be interesting, though I don't know if it's feasible, is for one person making the challenge, to construct a model, and then send it along to the person they challenge, and have that person use the model in the scene. This would necessitate that we know what programs we all have, so as not to use like a B4 obp in B3, but it could add a bit of fun. (oo00oo now if I could only model worth a darn) Sounds like fun to me. Gawd knows I've run out of ideas at the moment.

I like Traveler's suggestion.. Then we'd have lots of projects going at once. Sounds fun to me.. Storm

I'm in.. though I'd probably have trouble coming up with a challenge.. Traveler's idea sounds good to me, too. =) Rosh

Great,I like the Idea too. I'm haveing PC problems today. I have a render going since Friday night and my system is Groaning. I wrote a lengthy introduction to this forum and my system Crashed before I could send it. (perfect timing eh?) anyway ... I may or may not have mentioned that I sent some "Mock forms" (in Word fomat),to Jack and Ed. I'll send em off to Traveller and George to look em over( I suck at html and web design so dont expect much). one is a sign up form that basically gets your name into the pool. it also has a place to fill out other information such as applications and skill levels. another page refects the artist's current Challenge Status" and displays your statistics, and list's your applications for all to see, this is so one artist doesnt get mobbed with Challenges while others go unchallenged, Via a phone conversation Jack ,Ed and I had kicked around the Idea of having a level's system in which you would increas your level in a particular application. for example : I'm pretty good at Bryce , so I might sing up as an intermediate or advanced level. But I kinda suck at Poser so I would enter in ayt a novice or beginner level. this information could be used to further taylor the challenge..most likely I would be challenged with a Poser based project to increase my Poser skill level. now ... the people with a masters type level would be on hand as tutors for the others. this way the Masters could challenge eachother with very complicated specifications. and you would work your way up in levels this way, again we were just kicking the Idea around And I'm sure it would need some tweaking but it's really not as complicated as I may have just made it sound. The forms will be helpfull in explainging it better, but again We want the feedback of the members to help us decide on a smooth way of doing this, if we want to do it this way at all. as far as themes ... We could have a theme pool that randomly selects the theme that everyone does. and have a place to submit your Idea for a theme... Thanks again for the support everyone and spread the word. Hawkfyr

Great Criticom, I'll strat another thread to post your apps. Perhaps You could start a thread and challenge someone to start a triangle. Welcome Hawkfyr
