ok first thing: to the site creators... when i press the back button, i should still see what i typed in.

ok so here goes AGAIN...

i fixed the texture on the planks, made the sky a good deal darker and gloomy, and added rain

the rain is a volumetric texture that i made myself, it still needs some work to get rid of the streaks in the foreground

i may still end up scrapping the dock and the boat and putting a sea creature like a squid yanking a sub into the depths of the ocean. i found some great submarine plans so now i just have to try and model those. the squid will be easy since i can just model the tentacles

tell me what you think and check back later for updates

I liked the first one better. The color of the ocean was just perfect there.

I also think you should try to get rid of the big wave's top. It's too flat because of the limit of the height of your terrain.

I like the rain. I think that if you had some gray veils of rain in the far distance, it would help add to the feeling of a storm. Also, if you decide to change the light back to the way it was for the sake of the ocean color, the veils of rain in the distance would make it seem gloomier. Lin

ok... i made the submarine model. not the highest detail but enough for my purposes. i still should adjust the textures around with the sub... maybe add some paneling

i jsut rendered this really quick to see what the sub would look like in the scene. i also changed the water and tried to get it as close to the way it was before but still using the same sky

Looking good but i agree with Kylara the big wave towards the back of the image shouldnt be that flat.

paul_carduner ( ) posted Sat, 18 January 2003 at 1:55 PM

im wondering how i will fix that flat wave. maybe i should just change the perpective so you can't see the flat wave

Or maybe put a curl of faom on top of it some how? The flat wave, I mean..

I like the first one also - the waves need some white cap, for the stormy effect

here is an update. slightly different textures and different POV to loose that flat wave in the background. as for the whitecaps... im not sure how to go about doing them. any ideas?

Looks pretty good now. But, the submarine now looks more like a whale. :-) Put a metal plate texture on. As to the wihitecaps, try creating both them and the rain in Photoshop. Rain is relatively easy, but I don't know about foam.

I think you should be able to make some foam when you work with an altitude sensitive texture. Even though I would prefer to do this post.
