how about an alien artifact theme. all images would include a alien landscape but with the central focus on alien artifacts you might see if you happened to ,oh ,lets say crash land on the planet. artifacts would include ancient buildings, temples, ruins , the aliens themselves, anthing that would fit the criterea of the theme. --criticom--

Here is one that will put your visual skills to a test :) Abstractions, they are not as easy as they look. Getting an abstract image to "speak" to the viewer can be a very daunting task.

id like to see a futuristic city scape, relatively interesting, could even be earth in the future. Just a thought. Tempest P.S. Great job on the forum hawkfyr

REAL flapper and zoot suit 1920's themes! Real 1920's strappy low boxy heeled shoes. oh, and did I mention 1920s? ;)

bast ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2000 at 6:38 AM

laugh except some of us actually do not have Bryce, since it was not useful on the job ;) How about Animatek World Builder! :) Now there is a program that can put Bryce to shame. If we go there then do I win by default?? ;)

Roshigoth ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2000 at 9:32 AM

How about modelling completely within whatever programs you've got available? Personally, I hate trying to model in Bryce.. that's why I've got rhino and 3ds max.. =) Rosh

Period themes (the 20's, the "roarin' (18)90's" the 70s, any World War) would be cool for Poser and 2D challenges. For more generic challenges, I'd suggest: 1) Future Wars - this could derive from games (Warhammer 40000, Wing Commander, etc.), fiction (The Man-Kzin wars, for example, or Star Trek), etc. 2) Altered Reality - Perhaps Salvadore Dali-esque, or derived from M.C. Escher, or maybe just drug-induced... :-) Just some thoughts... :-)

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2000 at 2:44 PM

These all sound good , So post a challenge to another member and start some triangle's so we can get a flow of images Hawkfyr

One theme I've been thinking of for a while is just a loose thread of thought, but interesting. The moon is always female.

Hi all, The following was posted in a thread of it's own also: Okay, I counted 19 Artist's who listed they're Apps,so we surely have enough people here to get some more triangle going, Speaking of Triangles , should we have another type of challenge in addition to the triangles,in which the challenge doesnt nessecarily(sp)come back to you? y-no ,like one where the "challened" does an image and then challenges another Artist after it's done. or do like they do in the 2d forum and pass one file along and many artists add to it. Just throwing out Ideas. Start Challenging. If you cant think of a challenge or Theme , go to the Theme pool to get some Ideas. Thanks Hawkfyr

I like the round robin challenge where one artist challengesd another and that artist challenges the next. As far as sharing files, take pity on those of us with pitiful dial up connections who are lucky to ever get better than 26400 lol

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 10:53 PM

Thanks bone well we could do both, just ,when you post a challenge, state what kind of challenge you want to start, Triangle or round Robin, and go for it. I see you posted an Idea for a challenge theme Boney ,all you gotta do is pick someone to do it and set up some specs for them to follow. Go for it Hawkfyr

Roshigoth ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 10:58 PM

Bone.. you get 26400? Lucky.. I usually plod along at 24k.. never higher anymore.. accursed phone lines. =) Rosh

bonestructure ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 11:03 PM

I average 26400, never lower. some days I get 33333, and once I even had 39.

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 11:03 PM

As far as transferring the file, those at the 2d forum use xoom sharehouse to upload the file , then everyone grabs it from there. Just pass along the username and password. that way it's not sent via e-mail Hawkfyr

Roshigoth ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 11:16 PM

Yeah, but passing around 3d scenes can get really big.. And some of us just don't have time to download them at the rate we're plodding along.. =) Rosh

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 11:26 PM

I agree, 3D files might cause conflicts from machine to machine, with things like screen size, resolution and other stuff, I don't know this first hand but i read some Bryce Camp archives and I seem to remember them talking abuot problems shareing the grotto file. but 2d images saved in .psd format would let everyone do a layer or two. just start whichever Challenge you like the best or want to participate in. and post it. LETS DO IT FOLKS Hawkfyr

“The fact that no one understands you…Doesn’t make you an artist.”

Tempest ( ) posted Wed, 03 May 2000 at 11:42 PM

I have DSL (cackles madly). Sharing 3d files would take forever, nothin would ever get accopmlished.

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Thu, 04 May 2000 at 10:54 AM

You know, there are some "virtual drive" services where the files could be stored for sharing; some of them may even allow direct implementation. The only one I remember is www.idrive.com but I know there are at least three out there... Might help with this kind of challenge.

Roshigoth ( ) posted Thu, 04 May 2000 at 11:38 AM

The best implementation for sharing a file in a challenge would be something like "Use this model in a scene about..." where the model might be related, unrelated, or completely unidentifiable.. And of course, the download should be absolutely no more than 1 meg for us slow dial-up connections.. and preferably smaller than 500k.. I've done some fairly complex models that could be zipped under 500k, so it's not that much of a restriction. What do you think? =) Rosh

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Sat, 06 May 2000 at 12:03 AM

I like the idea of challenging people to do a type of pic they've never done before, like people who are good at lanscapes but have never done an outer space pic and people who are good at space pics to do a landscape. It will give you a new insight and respect for another persons artform. Just an idea, because I love extremes in most everything. Verdie : )
