how to get rid of the shadow marked without moving the sun position.

Change the ambient color of the red texture to the same shade of red. Then increase the ambience until you're happy with the way it looks.

You can also use a directed light parented to the object with a very quick fall-off. So you won't have to put more ambiance in your scene : this can cause unwanted side effects. :)

increasing the ambiance makes things look unatural- have managed with a spotlight - thank anyway

Turn off Self Shadows in the mat for that object?

Can't you just turn off shadows for that one item? You probably don't want to turn off cast shadows, but maybe self-shadow or receive shadow. Arleen
