In getting Victoria 3.0 Male Morph Pak, I am having problems with V3BodyMale1B.jpg into a .bum and I wonder how to convery it for Poser 5. How could I do it in Photoshop?

Poser 5 does not use .bum files. It uses the jpg straight

But the MalePack for Vicky 3 is looking for the .bum but it is messing up and causing it to lock up. How can I change the it?

Locking up? Normally if you cancel, it should ask if you want to continue looking for missing textures, then ignore all missing texes when you say "no"... then yu can apply the bump maps as JPG individually in the Material Room

When I cancel, it just crashes.

Bump maps supplied as JPG are a common problem for P5 & PPP users. You can: 1. Convert jpg to bmp then change file extension to .bum (not recommended as this increases disc storage requirements) 2. Edit the library (CR2, PZ3, PP2 etc) files to change the texture lines from .bum to .jpg 3. Use a utility like CorrectReference (link above) to automatically fix the library files for you. (My prefered solution as this also corrects wrong directory paths and speeds up loading of textures in P5) -- Mark

P5 can use BUM files. Provided there is one. However, just changing a greyscale bumpmap's extension to BUM won't work. PPP AND P5 will not automatically internally convert a file with a BUM extension and the results won't work right. Rather you should point the file at the jpeg instead. And convince distributors to try my big BUM solution (see elsewhere for like dizens of threads on this here, PT, and the Merchants' forum) that way two files are provided and the one for the version is installed.

Open the V3 Complete MALE1.pz2 file in notepad and replace .bum with .jpg and save it. You will have to delete the .txt extension to use it.

I did... or thought I did a conversion of .bum to .jpg and it failed crashing. I will try it again and hope for better luck.

Okay, let me say this basically again: PPP and P5 expect a greyscale bumpmap for most file types. PPP and P5 expect a .BUM file to be a green BUM. P4 expects ANY file referenced as a bumpMap to be a green BUM. You can convert a greyscale bumpmap to a green BUM in P4 or with emboss filters on the R and G channels in photoshop (blacking ou the B channel). A .BUM is a 24-bit windows bitmap of a green BUM formatted map. P4 can reference a green BUM formatted JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, or whatever in the file. P4 will prompt to convert anything without a .BUM format. PPP and P5 can ONLY reference a BMP format file with a .BUM extension without converting it. Both of them do the same thing, except P4 prompts you and saves the results as a .BUM and makes the saved scene, figure, prop or hair reference the .BUM, while PPP and P5 don't prompt you and don't save the results an refer to the JPEG so it can convert internally later. A .BUM file that is pproperly green-red will work in all three. It's impossible to convert a green BUM to a greyscale standard bumpmap because the filtering is non-reversible. Except with paintstaking hand-recreation. However, you should contact CL tech support. It should not be crashing any which way.
