Site Admin

On behalf of the admin team, I want to thank all who provided feedback to the earlier thread on this topic and provide you a update as promised. The admin team met today for our weekly meeting. As you might guess the current debate was central to the discussion. Based upon your feedback we have decided that there certainly is room for improvement in the Merchant Agreement/Product Upload form. This is being revised and will be completed by the end of next week. We will attempt to address those areas that have been pointed out as lacking or unclear. The merchant forum has never been directly associated with the selling process here. We thought it would be great for merchants to have a private place to share information among each other and where we could easily share with them as well. Overtime, we found that this forum became more negative than helpful and it seemed to be associated with some who had competing outside interests. We made a decision to remove merchant forum access for those who had vested interest in other stores. We are reviewing the criteria for removal of merchant forum access and expect to have that compete by the end of next week as well. We have had our share of missteps relative to rolling out new features/programs and will likely have the occassional foobar in the future. We try to look at all sides of the equation when implementing something new, but sometimes it is hard to see all sides. The intent has always been to improve the community and serve the members. We hope that if you weight the good and the bad, that the good carries the day most of the time. Tim

Yep,I wonder if he knows it stands for Fucked Up Beyond all Repair? Theres also TARFU and SNAFU !

pendarian ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 12:22 AM

Well, I feel that it should be either everyone or no one allowed in the Merchants forum...actually from what I have been hearing from some of the merchants here, the forum really isn't necessary at all, why don't you just shut it down? If it really isn't essential to the merchants as has been stated time and time again by some of the people that represent Renderosity, why would you even open up yourself to a continuing controversy? Not to mention the fact that some of the posts usually end up public knowledge anyway, at least from what I've seen on several occasions over at another site, discussing anything that you don't want leaked in that forum is rather useless. And if you make one that is just for exclusive merchants, you will be facing the same thing, information will still leak out...it's a no win situation Tim. If it's not useful and it's going to continue this type of disention among the community, the forum really isn't worth it.

Why are people so determined to add to the already ridiculous rifts in the community?

Unbelievable.

Heh heh. Rough translation: "We shot ourselves in the feet [again] and now are waffling over what to do about it." perhaps? Carry on, Tim. Just stopped by for the ebots, and to say to everyone else here: Later folks, it's been real. Ya'll know where to look me up.

Netherworks ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 5:18 AM

Hmm... SNAFU means "Situation Normal All Fcked Up" TARFU means "Things Are Really Fcked Up" Though they do sound a bit like Star Wars critters too.

Orio ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 1:59 PM

There was no real concern, Tim. It was just a matter of a small and rather vile personal revenge against me. I bet that you won't get further more complaints from Boulder on that subject. He got what he wanted now. Best regards, Orio

Bluebeard, that's all well and good...but some of the merchants can't visit that forum, some have been locked out.

BlueBeard, this issue concerns all...merchants with acces to the merchants forum, merchants without acces and members...I think you should post your reply here. Here everybody have a chance to see it, read it and say yes or no. This issue is of general interest for the community...I feel....

Perhaps R'osity should dust off the Poll code they have there in the RH link and set up a Member poll on the subject?

Now there's an idea >^_^

Kendra ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 10:04 PM

Orio, this thread concerns the merchant lockouts. Not your product. Just FYI.

Spiritbro77 ( ) posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 11:07 PM

Well Ive heard it both ways, Beyond all recognition and repair, so I went with the one that best fit the situation 8-). If you read the Rogue Warrior, he usually says all repair.

3-DArena ( ) posted Thu, 23 January 2003 at 7:26 AM

Well since as far as I know all merchant's who were locked out have closed their stores (or at least many of them) there probably aren't any merchants that are still here and are locked out, they are no longer merchants here so it's not a matter of letting them back in. I would think that many of them will never come back under the current management. Except maybe for those who requested to be locked out, then they might stay as a seller since their lock out is their own choice.

Good point LSM, Im not a merchant but if I was and had been told to piss off you can bet I wouldnt be back.

CyberStretch ( ) posted Fri, 24 January 2003 at 8:09 AM

Well, that could be one intent: Invite the Merchants back and when they do not return, you exonerate yourself from "pushing" them out because it was their choice not to return.

Working out the details around Product Upload and Merchant Forum Access has been the topic of vigorous discussion this week by the site admin team. There were many points of view to be considered. Final conclusions were reached late Friday afternoon. Given the hour, we decided to share our decisions with the members on Monday morning. Thanks, Tim
