Forum Banner & Backroom Mini-Contest

Since the backroom and forum banner are being reworked, here's your opportunity to be immortalised (well not quite, but it's pretty close ;))

The idea: To create a forum banner and a banner and navigation bar for the backroom.

The theme: Poser itself, whatever that means to you individually ;)

The Prize: your artwork on display at the top of the forum and the backroom. Oh, and bags of kudos from your Poser buddies.

The Rules:

Only one entry per person.

Create a matching set of three images. One for the main Poser forum, one for the backroom banner and one for the backroom navigation bar.

Image size and restrictions. The main forum banner should be 500 pixels across by 100 pixels and contain somewhere the single word "Poser". The backroom banner should be 500 pixels across by 90 pixels, contain somewhere the words "Poser Backroom" and all edges must fade to pure black. The navigation bar image should be 150 pixels across by 350 pixels and contain somewhere the following words: "FAQ", "Tutorials", "Tips'n'Tricks", "Challenges", "Contests", "Links" arranged in such a way as to allow hotspots to open other pages by clicking on them. It too should have all edges fading to pure black.

Here are some templates for the image sizes:

forum_tmplt.gif

bkrm_tmplt.gif

nav_tmplt.gif

Absolutely no nudity, sexual content or violence. People don't have the option to not see the banners, so let's keep it clean.

Must be rendered in Poser (any version).

No restrictions on postwork or models used. In fact, postwork will be necessary in order to get the text looking good.

Voting: voting will be in a forum thread. One vote per person. The winner will then be selected from the top 10 by the Renderosity staff.

The contest is open immediately and will close on Saturday Feb 1st at 12 noon CST. Voting will open on Saturday Feb 1st at 12 noon CST and close on Tuesday 4th Feb at 12 noon CST.

So get cracking, and stun us all with your ideas!

Im kind of confused on the navigation bar. Renderosity doesnt have any navigation bars with graphics is the back room going to be diffrent? Do you want a full graphic nav bar?

kbennett ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 11:10 AM

That's right Goddess, a graphic navbar on one side. The words in the description (FAQ, Links etc) will be hotspots on the graphic.

Yah Me confused about Nav bar as well. Is it going to be touching each other like my sample or not even close ? Touching means I could wrap a design . Also there was originaly talk about a color being specified as to use , Is this now open to our imagination ? Or stick to the color sceme ?

tasquah ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 7:40 PM

And What About Annimation ? Like in a GIF format ?

kbennett ( ) posted Mon, 27 January 2003 at 1:45 AM

No, they won't be touching. The navbar will be at the side, and the banner at top-centre, so no opportunity for wrapping, sorry tasquah. As for colours, the only restriction is the one stated. The edges of the two backroom images need to fade to black. I didn't think about animation when I did the rules, but I'd prefer the images to be static. Thanks for taking an interest ;) Kevin.

Could people look at the old backroom to see better what you are looking for when it comes to the navigation bar? Not that they have to copy it...just to see how it shows up on the page. I really hope people participate. I think you all are trying very hard to make this forum better. It would be nice if the members would give you a chance and show off their own skills. My two cents worth less than one tonight.

Thanks dialyn . It helped me to understand better. :)

Thanks dialyn, good idea. I've put up some sample pages of the new backroom so that you can see more clearly where the banner and navbar wil be and how the navbar in particular works. (Caveat: Please ignore the samples I've knocked up. They look awful but get the concept across. And there's no new content there yet either ;))

kbennett ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 8:24 AM

Since there are currently no entries and so nobody can say they didn't have the same amount of time, we're extending the deadline to noon CST Saturday Feb 8th and the voting starts then and will be open until noon on Tuesday 11th Feb. hopefully that'll give more folks a chance to enter ;) Kevin.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 9:37 AM

Someone better enter or I might, and then you all will be sorry. :-/ Don't say I didn't warn you. I like cute. Threat enough???? BTW, is this going to be one of those white letters on black backgrounds? You scared me a little with wanting the graphics to fade to black. I've changed the defaults on my Renderosity profile to avoide that vibrating combination. Just asking. I know people think it looks cool to have tiny white print on dark backgrounds even though it is so difficult to read (especially if you have aging eyes like mine). Of course, it's possible people must not want someone like me to be able to read the type when they make it extremely small and difficult to make out. That may be a good thing from both our perspectives, come to think of it.

tasquah ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 10:10 AM

LoL dialyn , heck there goes that idea i had of the itty bitty txt banner that no one could read . But hey if i use only toon characters and BIG words , I at least know I have one vote from you hehe .

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 10:15 AM

:-)

kbennett ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 10:46 AM

@dialyn: umm, yes? White on black, yes. But not tiny. It's all in standard fonts and pretty easy reading. BTW did you know that you can change the size of the display font in most browsers by holding down the key while you move the mouse wheel?

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 11:02 AM

Sigh. Holding down what key while you move the mouse wheel? In 20 years, you'd know what the problem is....but by that time we'll probably all have cloned eyeballs with computer insets and perfect vision.

kbennett ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 12:36 PM

Sorry, my mistake, I forgot that using the angle brackets doesn't show up properly. I meant to say the [Ctrl] key.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 12:39 PM

That does help. Thank you. :) But white on black still vibrates (stubborn, ain't I).

kbennett ( ) posted Wed, 29 January 2003 at 2:01 PM

Yup, you sure is ;)

Rhiannon ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 11:13 AM

What time on February 7th? I work during the day (although sometimes my manager feels that's debateable), so it would help to know whether it needs to be in on Thursday night, or if I have until like midnight on Friday night.

ladynimue ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 3:41 PM

Looks Like I goofed on the deadline...
Actual Deadline for the Poser Banner Contest is noon , CST Saturday Feb 8th. Which would be 1:00PM Eastern Time Zone.
