that's why I suggested this...think it was Lady Dragon that was putting up the great finds...usually 10 or so...haven't seen that in awhile.... But I know I miss 80% or more of the images, as I just can't scan them all...I"m sure there are just loads of them that deserve being looked at..and just get lost in the amount of uploads....

I think it's a great idea...as long as everyone understands that it isn't nice to make fun of someone else's choices, that this is a honest effort to find what otherwise might be missed in the galleries. I love having treasures brought to my attention....and also makes people aware that there is more in the galleries that the not so Hot 20.
Before I offer my opinion, I must qualify this with I am one of those who religiously browses the galleries in its entirety, not just subsets for specific apps or mediums. Just ask the Powers-That-Be here about the bandwidth I suck up looking at the galleries. Having said that, ... why does it really matter? To me this is similar to those people who get their panties in an uproar over "cheating" in the voting/ranking of the Hot 20. There is some very good art out there, and it is a shame that it is missed. However, the vast majority is boring/repetitive/unimaginative/crap (my opinion), so it all comes down to "meh". Remember, art is subjective. Just because "you" (in the generic sense) think your Poser "art" is great, having used someone else's lighting and textures, and all you did was move your naked Vicky around against a background and postwork it with a little haze in photoshop, it does not make it great toeveryone else. Oh well, just my opinion. I rather like it when other people offer up their opinions, as it exposes me to their perspective. By reviewing a single person's opinions of the work here, you get a better idead of what their tastes are, and a little idea about them. Not some worthless voting crap that can be manipulated and means diddly squat. So, enoguh rambling. I do not intend by any means to squash this idea, but the way I look at it is that is people are interested, they will look through the galleries when they can. Otherwise, it is their loss. - Ray
This may be a bit out of your scope, but some of the other galleries (bryce for example) have numerous pics that are pretty heavily poser involved as well, but are just rendered in bryce.

Ray, Dave is not suggesting we post our own work here, only images that we personally like, what we like about it, etc., etc. This has nothing to do with the "Hot 20". And if you do, as you say, enjoy other's opinions, then perhaps you'll enjoy this and maybe even join in, huh? Unless I am misunderstanding Dave's idea, this would not be a forum to critique or make fun of other's images or choices ... just an idea to spread around some fun and perhaps expose everyone to work that they might have otherwise missed and enjoy as well.
Exactly.... it may not even be good" art to everyone...maybe a unique idea or something....stuff that gets overlooked. I'm sure not everyone gets a chance to look at all the images..there are thousands....I see but a handful, myself... there are many, many good pieces...i don't even look at the hot 20 or whatever it is...

"Not even that would get ME into the galleries..." But then, you could complain about how banal they are, how pedestrian, how plebian, how boring, how crass, how puerile, how juvenile, how tawdry, how tomentose, how declasse, how ignoble, how base, how vulgar, how satanic, how communistic, how depraved, how do I get a free Vicky 3?

When I see a post that has "that somethng Special" I post a link in the OT. There is some good stuff posted in the galleries, and it comes in all shapes and forms and subject matter... just seems to be alot more naked/allmostnaked female figures... not my taste, but I do enjoy the skills of the artist.
Excellent Idea Dave :)
Do me a big favor..
Work out the details (either by yourself, as it is your idea, or with the help of the Poser Forum group)
Post exactly what you want to happen and how you want it to happen.

Of course, because many members are on a slower dial-up modem, posting "Links" instead of actual gallery images to the Poser Forum Threads would be the best way to go!
What fun! Get your team together and if this flies we can even link your weekly thread to be part of the backroom :)

I also really like this idea. It's been great when people have done this before, and turned me on to a lot of beautiful work that I'd missed in the galleries. Let's agree that one person's treasure is not necessarily another's, and that differences of perspective are healthy for creative people to consider. We should be able to keep the "rules" fairly loose with common sense and an emphasis on the positive: don't start a new thread with ten images every day, don't denigrate art you don't like, etc. I totally agree about links to images rather than reposting them, which the artists might not like, anyway. OK, who's gonna go first? :-)
ok... how about this... The main point of the search is to find hidden gems...images and artists that just seem to get overlooked in the mass of members and images.... Believe it or not, there have been over 1000 new members to Renderosity since 1/29/03....most of those don't have a gallery...yet :) There are approx 210,000 images at Renderosity.... As ladynimue's thread of yesterday brought out...there are only a handfull of the 134,000 Renderosity members that are ACTIVILY participating in the Poser forum...I would assume that those are the folks that get their galleries gazed upon the most. So...anyone that would like to participate, we have to find a way to find those hidden images from the great mass... images that hit your soul...give you a creative spark...are just plain good :) I'm not an art critic by any stretch of the imagination, but there are some images that I see that just plainly blow my socks off..some that just hit me a certain way....and they have no commments or votes or anything else...they get overlooked..... Now...I tried a couple of ways today to search the galleries, and I think the best way is to do a "VIEW RANDOM" selection on the gallery page. All the images are listed but I guess in random order...so I will see different images at the beginning than someone else.... Then, considering this is the Poser forum...start scanning until you find one that has Poser on it, and check it out, plus the artists gallery....you could keep notes so you don't go there a second time to save some repetition... Anyway, if something strikes your soul....post the link in the new thread that will be formed...perhaps give a few words as to why this image touched you in some way.... Does this sound too complicated? Is there a better way to do this?

and just for some glorification of the chosen ones... maybe we could drop them an IM or email that we have gazed upon their work with awe and wonderment...and invite them to come around for a chat in the forum...especially if they are lurkers. Could be a good way to gain additional ideas and techniques as well.

KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid is probably the best plan of all. Seems like it's worth a try. I'm looking forward to the treasure hunt to begin. :) One thing I would suggest, if it doesn't cause hysteria. I agree with Flak who mentioned that there are Poser figures shown prominantly in other galleries but turn up in Bryce, Vue, or Mixed Medium, or Holiday, or whatever. I hope we wander to wherever we find a graphic that stirs up that highlights what Poser's potential alone and as a teamplayer is. Good idea, Dave.
When I was rooting around today, I came upon several artists in mixed media and C4D that were really good. I suppose, considering this is coming from the Poser forum, I was trying to narrow the search to that category, but I know there are many fine artists in the other places. Should we just include the entire Renderosity community or just Poser gallery? Also, many of us check out the galleries once in a while anyway, but don't share our experiences with anyone..we perhaps will leave a comment to the artist, but that's about it....this will allow us to share here, so we all can take a look :) Sounds to be a bit of a chore perhaps ???? Maybe those that participate can just go off at their leisure...no specific roadmap, and if something pops up, they could post it in the new thread...this would allow for a more informal and non-commital form of browsing...but would this deter the project???? I'm being a bit wishy washy, here, but I get this "who cares" gut feeling a bit in the pit of my stomach as well as the "wow" feeling of finding cool images to view... What say you ????

Dave, I am certainly willing to participate, although my participation may be limited to only one or two times a week. I do browse the galleries alot when I have down-time at work, so it could occasionally be more than that. Perhaps we should just leave it up to who is doing the gallery surfing as to whether they limit it to the Poser gallery, or they branch out to other galleries like Mixed Medium, or Vue, or Bryce. I for one like viewing the "all galleries" option most times when I do surf. I for one am open on this one. I like the idea of dropping the artist an IM ... perhaps the one who posts the image could be responsible for that. I really like the idea of the random search ... but will this result in any cross-posting of images? I have no idea. But I do think maybe there should be some sort of consistent wording for the subject lines of these posts ... something like "Hidden Treasure - (name of the image)," or whatever. And links are definitely the way to go. Okay ... there's my two-cents worth. :-) When do we start?

ok..we're on a roll :) Now to get a few more members to do star search... Yes...the subject heading should always be the same... Do we just keep one thread, or post a new each time?

As we all know, there are so many new images in the Poser gallery, it is very hard, probably impossible, to keep up with them all. How about we do a treasure hunt once a week or whatever... There could be an ongong thread that contains our choice for an image that just knocks our socks off, or has creative ideas, etc.... Perhaps we could assign page sections for volunteers to gaze at...for instance...I could scan pages 1-20 and find the outstanding images in my estimation, then perhaps even make a few comments, why I like it, etc., include the link for viewing, etc... it would be an opportunity for us to rediscover or to discover some great hidden or forgotten images... Sound like a feasible idea??? brainstorming???
