ROFLMAO!!!!! Truly excellent. ;)

badmoon ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 12:35 PM

Can't see how this is a racist image. I always thought that the KKK were equal opportunity bigots (they seem to hate everyone who isn't a member, equally).

tasquah ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 12:47 PM

To Funny ernyoka1. All thats missing is 2 labeled Buttons . " Enter " or " Go to Hell " And its not really racist Norbert. He could very well open the gate and let him in.

designodyssey ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 12:55 PM

ummm .. how is it racist? It certainly isn't against white people, only ignorant people .. i guess that could be some sort of 'ist' but not racist ..smiles

Taking the p*ss out of the KKK racist attitudes and poking fun at them with a bit of irony thrown in is "in very bad taste"??
Had to look again at the bit where it says Renderosity is a community of artists just to be sure that I was not at the wrong site.

Well done ernyoka1

Change the title. That's the only thing I can see that could possibly be in bad taste. No one is naked, no one is making gross sexual innuendos. This is obviously satire, and in the US, satire against the Klam KLuckers is or should be a way of life. I mention US because that is where Renderosity is located. Can't even imagine anyone who is likely to be embarrassed by this except a member of the KKK. I think perhaps the IM was not well thought-out. I can understand someone not wanting to start their Sunfay looking at it-- I feel that way about most stuff in the galleries. They don't need to come down, Neither does this. This is a prime example of Free Expression without unnecessary grossness or sexual titillation. Emily

queri ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 1:41 PM

That would be Sunday not Sunfay-- not enough Caffiene yet. Emily

iamonk ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 1:45 PM

It is obvious that this was posted to cause a debate. I think I understand what is being said here and may even agree, but it seems to be more of an argument than art.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 1:52 PM

Is it obvious, iamonk? Gee and I didn't even know it myself. I posted this becourse it is a 3D version of a cartoon drawing I once saw. And I just found that hood on PhilC's site and then this image formed. geeez... peeps...come on! As gueri said: The only ones that could be embarassed would be a member of the kkk. Or is someone objecting to the mere IDEA of Saint Peter being anything but white? I wonder what would have happened if I've made it a black FEMALE? (sorry if it's not PC to say "black", I'm not really sure of what is allowed or not in the PC terms) Oh and for the record: I am a rather pink female myself.

STORM3 ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 1:56 PM

Debate arises out of subject matter. Lots of good and bad art creates debate, from the cartoon in your local paper to the works of great masters. So do we ban debate-causing art? Or any art the portrays anything to do with politics, religious belief etc.? All of those issues are matters of current and historic debate and are controvesial because there are people on both sides of the wire. I keep remembering the words "Artits Community." STORM

STORM3 ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 1:59 PM

ladynimue ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 2:32 PM

To be very honest with you , when I first viewed the image, it looked like the KKK member was inviting the black figure to put his head on the block. This really upset me! In fact it outraged me! There is just so much hate in the world, and coupled with yesterdays tragedy. I am the first one to admit that I just did not wish to view any more hatred. Thus the reason for the IM, and asking to please remove it from the Thread. Obviously, I was mistaken in my first impression of this image. ladynimue Poser Forum Moderator

I see nothing wrong with it either. I laugh at the ramblings of these Hood-wearing, goat-molesting, gotta go to Walmart to buy another sheet since I got drunk last night and threw up all over this one, (now what as I talking about?) Oh yeah, I'm sorry If my comment led you to believe that I felt like it wasn't art, of course it is. I am just sick of hearing the whole debate that goes with it. I am a bit on the pink side myself.

KBennett. Guess I was/am stoopid. I really just wanted to post a cartoon. I guess you could blame it on me NOT living in America. I HONESTLY had no idea that this image would cause more than a few "LOL"'s Seems I was wrong. Sorry. And y'know. IF the figures was reversed it wouldn't be IRONY. It wouldn't be FUN! Irony is the IDEA of turning things upside down. Ladynimue. I see you DID post your reply here too. Very nice done. Takes a great man - or woman to say "I was wrong" :o)

It's fine with me, and I come from a place where the Kluxers still pester the rest of us with their drivel. Like I said over at PP - given archaeology and history, St. Peter is prolly pretty dark skinned anyhoo... so yeah, it would be funny to watch the "oh, shit..." reaction of a Kluxer at the gates of Heaven :) /P

It might have been more obvious if there was a big book on the lectern. I don't see anything wrong with the image, although I can see where Kev might have been mistaken. Technically it's bigotism ... against the KKK. I'm not sure that's a bad thing... I mean sure ignorant stupdidity is a valid lifestyle too, but I'm not going to try very hard to defend 'em. Chill out Trekkie ... you're ok

The only ones that could be embarassed would be a member of the kkk. Or is someone objecting to the mere IDEA of Saint Peter being anything but white? Considering the locale where Peter came from, he was darker than the average bear, anyway, no? Anyway, I loved this... it needs a "coffee on monitor" warning, though! ;-)

aprilrosanina ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 4:06 PM

Oh maaan. I snarfed my drink on this one. (Snarf: to reverse inhale a liquid or other substance, usually due to laughing one's tushie off on encountering humor unexpectedly while drinking.) It did take me a second to "get it," mostly because the "Violence" tag had me thinking that the guy in the hood was an executioner for the first second. Then it "clicked", mostly thanks to the big pearly gate there. :) So I understand that some people might not have comprehended the gist at first sight. (Adding a book, as suggested above, may speed the "click" process; and/or adding wings or halo to St. Pete.) On t'other hand, if people do "get it" and still think it should be removed, I must vehemently disagree... wonderful satire, and comparatively gentle. April Follies

pdxjims ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 5:01 PM

ummmm.... It's funny. Not ROTFLMAO funny, but pretty darn funny. I have no idea why you'd be asked to remove it. Bad taste is not covered in the TOS, otherwise 99.9% of the stuff posted would be considered bad taste by someone, and we'd be able to wade trough all the postings in a couple of minutes. Of course, no one would bother... I think the moderator was making a personal request. However, if it is a personal request, they shouldn't have used the signature they did. That makes it look official.

The 4th Party ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 5:22 PM

I see nothing wrong with the image myself, but if the figures were reversed in the image, I think it would cause quite a debate, so, in that respect, I supose it could be considered racial

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 5:23 PM

Attached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=326848

The request to remove it was based on a misconception of the idea of the image. That issue is solved :o) I've made a Version 2 of the image, incorporating some stuff that was either unclear or missing on this one. it is in my gallery. Link above. Thanks for all your comments so far. Believe it or not, I had NEVER expected this to raise such a fuss. And to anyone who may have felt offended: Sorry about that. It WAS the cause of the "Violence" tag. That it COULD offend someone.

it would be irony either way :) I'm just saying, with a pic like that, if your not offending one group, your risking offending the other I liked the theme by the way :) no matter what each of the figures roles were

mark, As a caucasian female in NYC I've been the victim of racism. There are restaraunts I cannot get served in becuase of my skin color. Go figure. I see nothing wrong with the humor in this image. This is a parody, and causes no harm to anyone. The image can stay. Lyrra

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 5:33 PM

Frankly, if the "other group" is the KKK's, I'd PREFER to insult them rather than to comply to them. I just don't like ANY kind of racism... or sexism for that matter.

::I know I'll regret getting in on this but...:: markdc, could you please explain to me how this is a racist image? I understand that it is an image about racism, but that doesn't mean the image itself is racist.

JettBoy ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 6:26 PM

As a resident (an unwilling victim of circumstance, actually) of the deep South, I think this is hilarious. Few things are more satisfying than seeing some redneck Klansman getting their just desserts. Unfortunately, despite the humor involved, there is one thing wrong with this pic...everyone knows that heaven is staffed entirely by the Irish.

Moonbiter ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 6:29 PM

If I reversed the sentiment of the image by parodying a member of the New Black Panther Party or the Nation of Islam trying to get past the gates of heaven that are guarded by a white guy would it be considered in poor taste or racist? My guess is that kind of image would last about 15 seconds before being yanked wether I was parodying racist people or not. But if you can honestly say you wouldn't be offended by 'my' image feel free to let this one stay.

markdc ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 6:33 PM

Momcat, From my post above "I don't think such an important subject should be a subject of parody." It's a racist image because she is making light of the suffering of millions of people. Let's just laugh off oppression with a joke. Meanwhile people are being dragged to death behind cars solely because of the color of their skin. That's hilarious! I only wish they had it on tape. When the cops tried to beat Rodney King to death I really got a big laugh from watching it over and over agin. If everyone thinks it's funny, then by all means enjoy yourself. I don't own this site so I have no say over what is posted here. Just do me a favor, when something bad happens to you please let me know so I can make an image and get a big chuckle out of it. -Mark
