Sorry all if its not that new but I could swear it wasn't there the other day.

They finally got it up on the front page. There's been posts with the information already, but it's nice to know we can finally get in through the front door. Thanks!

Sounds like an excellent example of market research matched with product development based on fact not fancy ... we hope.

Still no timetable for release, and no official mention of operating systems, which may mean some won't be supported. Since they may already know which versions of Windows and Mac OS will run their Studio Base, it's odd that Daz would leave that information out of the release. We'll just have to hope for the best. We're aware that some OS (Linux, Mac, earlier Windows versions) may not be economically viable (as Curious Labs found out), but the additional 5% increment in sales could be worth much more to Daz in good will from their customers. It would show they're interested in giving their customers what they need, and not stonewalling when the questions start to come in.

We know they're writing it using modular methodology. If they're using C++ or other multi-platform development product, then it has a much better chance of a lot of cross platform support. Most companies write to the current installed base plus 1 (to allow for the current base to upgrade during development time). A version that is written for Windows 98 will not be able to take advantage of a lot of memory compared to Win 2000 NT or Win XP. If you figure that at the time of release the market base will be mostly XP, you write for XP. This isn't the issue with Windoze this time since there's no rumor of a new release, but it may be the issue for Mac. All pure speculation. At the price and the proposed feature set, it's the best deal I've ever seen on software. You can't beat free. Speaking of free, this is the smartest move they could have done. In one stroke they completly avoid every one of the problems CL had. Even if it's pure crap, who can complain? No security crap or overhead, no b*tching because this part doesn't work and we paid good money for the whole product. No sales less than a month after release making those who preordered feel like idiots. No marketing campaign in all the magazines. No "bundled offers" to try to sell it. They'll make their money on the add-on components and by insuring that their content still has a home if another company bites the dust.

well, osx is of no use for me since i use mac primarily for dtp and since another monopolist (quark) doesn't want to write osx native version of xpress, i'm sticking to os9. osx gave me anyway a lot of hard drive space after deleting it. ;)

I bet it will be huge though - I am not on Broadband and my server only allows two hours online at a time - fingers crossed X X

Word is that all new macs from 2003 on will only run with osx so it makes sense that programers would be ignoring earlier os systems. I been waiting to upgrade until poser (or maybe I'll switch to Daz studio) becomes osx native, but from what I've heard is that the latest version is very stable and that the bugs have been worked out.

People here can speculate what OS Daz Studio actually runs on, but I'll wait until Daz makes an official statement. And for our Windows friends, don't believe everything you hear about OS X - good or bad. Save yourself some downtime and stick with Windows for now.
