Subject: Blacksmiths are made out of steel.

I started a new hobby. I'm forging a sword. Yup, sword. Dunno the reason, assume I wanted to prove myself that can do something else than just play with computer stuff. And it surely gives some respect among neighbours. ;oP It's been hellish job and it's not ready yet, but after a month I'll have my own sword. ...dunno what I'm gonna do with it though, but what the hell, I got my own sword! .n

...where it all started. Steel was actually really cheap, 0,70e/$ per kilogram. Weight of the sword is ~2kg.

And after 8 hours, blade is done. I gotta straighten the blade, attach big spike, sharpen it and start to doing finnishing. .n

...'chelle, you dirty, dirty lil' girl. ;oD (so where can I send the agreed amount of money?) Slenko, you said "that area", ehehe eheh hehe, "that area", ehehe he. ...well, to be honest, images doesn't show it, but quickly after I burned lots of holes in my clothes, I figured it may be better to use leather pinny. Burn baby burn. .n

JordyArt ( ) posted Wed, 05 February 2003 at 4:29 PM

wierd. wierd. wierd. But cool. Actually, technically isn't it a cutlass? Swords have a straight blade, and that definately looks curved.......? Next you'll have to get a thin sheet of steel, shape it into a scabbard and line it with velvet.......purple should do nicely.......and nice engraving on the scabbard.... Oh, and what finish are you giving it? The blade sure would look nice chromed...... (Erm, sorry, is this Your sword or mine?!? lol) (",)

Randy; You did? And I tought I'm the only one who finds sharp thingies irresistible. Got any pics? Cynlee; ...I'll post image after finnishing it, but it may take some time, these metalworks are way much harder than I tought. Jordybaby; To be honest, that thing is not ment to be curved. Working only from one side, bends the metal toward other. Hellish job was to straightening(is there word like that?), took almost as long as shaping whole blade. So tehchnically, it's like machete or scimitar. ...scabbard, huh. Comparing the effort this one takes, scabbard would take 10 years to finnish. Dunno about the finish, tought about cromed look too. Or burned black sword with cromed blade. Mmmmmmmm, crommmeeeed. .n
