Subject: Calling all GUINEA PIG and CAVY owners

pigfish ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 11:24 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 2:32 PM

Steve Shanks at PoserWorld has agreed to do a GUINEA PIG (yeah!!!) if he can get some good pictures to work from. Although I have four adorable piggies, I have no digital camera. Is there anyone out there who owns both piggies and a digital camera who would be willing to try to take some pics? I know we've had several folks wishing for guinea pigs in different postings here at the forum. I'm hoping Steve will pop in here to let us know what types of pics he needs. I'm guessing a top shot, side shot, and good face/head close-up. A non-abby, short-hair would probably be easiest to create but is not necessarily the cutest. At least color maps should be easy since piggies come in all colors and patterns . THANKS in advance. Pigfish :)= (piggy smiley)

Oh gosh - making a guinea pig! yes please! I have a gorgeous guinea pig called Thompson but as he is a Peruvian and has very long hair he actually looks more like a wig with ears than a guinea pig. I am happy to photo any bits you require though - Thommy allowing. After all it is close ups of ears and feet that you will have trouble finding at Google! I have a digital camera so just hoot and I will start snapping!

I looked at the Google pics but I wasn't sure what he wanted. It's hard getting these guys to hold still--unless you are plying them with parsley.

steveshanks ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 2:55 PM

Yea!! I am one of those who wish for a "piggy". Your in the right direction with the shape. I can get pictures of feet from my guinea pig encyclopedia. The back feet are much longer then the front feet and have 3 toes, the front feet have 4 toes and look more like hands. I would like to be able to transmap the shape, so it looks really real, with fur is that possible? I would pay more just to make this the ultimate "Millennium Guinea Pig" :)

This is greyscale, but shows the way the body looks in relation to a hand.

That last one has GOT to be a baby. One of my pigs is almost 15 inches long (and almost as big around LOL). Not that piggy babies aren't adorable since they are born with fur and open eyes (2 of my 4 females were pregnant when I bought them--life's little suprises).

Gosh, aren't guinea pigs adorable - has anyone ever met anybody who didn't love em!

elgyfu ( ) posted Mon, 03 February 2003 at 3:06 AM

Ooh! Just thought - Poser 5 hair room - shelties and peruvians! Furry piggys, fuzzy piggies! Isn't this exciting!

pigfish ( ) posted Mon, 03 February 2003 at 7:58 AM

Although I have Poser 5, somebody else will have to do the hairy ones. I haven't had much success in the hair room. I thought about this, too. You could even make texels and teddy bears.

Right oh ;o) Version one is up, now don't get to excited this is a very basic Beta, i have the front feet jointed but if you try and bend them it sends his chest screwy, i'll fix that in the next version, but in the mean time you can have a play with this and do whatever you want with it, i've put in the readme that it is public domain so if anyone improves on this version feel free to include everything in the new zip.......I'll let everyone else know later but let you guys get a chance to get it first ;o)...thanks, Steve

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! And that't one of their favorite spots for kisses, too.

Here's my first picture with the piggy. It didn't quite come out how I wanted, but sometimes Poser has a mind of it's own. I don't know what the FireFly high render did to his whiskers. It didn't do that on the low quality one.

elgyfu ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 12:56 AM

This is soooo cute - now to get in that hair room and make him furry! Steve, you are a genius, he looks so piggyish! Can you make him squeek and purr now ! :)

I could probably try to record a sound wave of my pigs. They are in the same room as my computer. Actually, it's THEIR room.

steveshanks ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 2:48 PM

What an adorable photo. Here are some textures I made tonight for the piggy. The next to the back one is the original texture. I stuck bump maps on all of them, too. I think the head may need to taper a bit more to the nose. I've had GP's named Pygmalion, Squeek, Patches, Ginger, Kismet, Flowers and Snuggles. Wheeks seem to be a popular name, too. That's the name for the "feed me now" whistle reserved only for humans. I called Pygmalion "Pyggy". I've also attached a link to a page with 5 different piggy wav sound files.
