And if you know what that means - you also know what this is. It's Philc's upcoming (if not already released by now) square dance dress. It's incredibly easy to texture and has good versatility - there are two cuff (sleeve ruffles) levels which can be made solid to texture or just invisible - and there are two collar ruffle levels to texture or make invisible as well. The skirt ruffle and petticoats have that potential too. I know I'm not doing this dress justice by talking about it - but I'm having a hell of a lot of fun playing with it. I am so appreciative to Phil for having made this dress.

I got it this afternoon, its fantastic. The folds in the skirt are so realistic and this in Poser 4 too. PhilC even includes shoes and all for only $1.99

Unbeleivable!

Great dresses! If they were for V3 I'd break a toe getting over there so fast...but I can't bring myself to go back to using V1 or 2...

They are just fantastic, hope to get them soon.

I agree - they ROCK!! Anything Phil does is A1 but like Dizzie, I am now working with V3 and don't want to outfit V2 anymore. Sure wish it had a V3 version (hint..hint) :) Irene

How charming

PhilC ( ) posted Wed, 05 February 2003 at 10:12 AM

Thanks Folks,

I'm glad you are finding the model easy to texture. I basically started with a UV Map and then created the OBJ rather than the other way round. I'll leave you to figure out how :)

Interesting comments regarding V3. I've seen a lot of posts indicating that V2 costumes can be easily made to fit V3. Making versions for each is going to get prohibitive. I did that previously for the last "Almost Freestuff" when in response to forum comments I included a version for Judy. The Judy version sold single figures and all but one of those were folks buying both. I appreciate that one can not please all of the people all of the time but will continually try to optimise my resources to appeal to the maximum number of users.

Yowza! Now this is great stuff!! Excellent, Phil, just excellent. Kate (who uses ALL the tools at her disposal, not just one, and therefore isn't limited to V3... snicker)

Dizzie ( ) posted Wed, 05 February 2003 at 3:09 PM

"I've seen a lot of posts indicating that V2 costumes can be easily made to fit V3" if this is so then it shouldn't be a problem to include a V3 version, correct?

PhilC ( ) posted Wed, 05 February 2003 at 5:19 PM

OK maybe I'm missing something. Wouldn't be the first time for sure. Doubt if it will be the last. Reading through the DAZ site info it states that:-

V3 to V2 Cr2 and OBJ

  • Backwards Compatibility for use with V1/V2:
  • Poses
  • Clothing and Accessories

From that I take it that what I make for V1/V2 will fit V3 ?

Vicky 3 has two models. A Vicky 3 head with a Vicky 2 body which is backward compatible. A Vicky 3 head on a Vicky 3 body is what's challenging the people trying to make Vicky 2 clothes into Vicky 3 clothes. It's all beyond me but I know some people have been successful.

Hummmm ok......

On the left is V3 with the outfit adjusted to fit. On the right is the V3-V2 figure with the outfit and shoes that are available now for $1.99. And the difference is?

Well the only difference I can see is that it will take me all of tomorrow to complete the version on the left with revised joint parameters and a Poser 5 version. And how many morphs will you expect to have Taylored in? I'm going to need a lot of convincing that its worth it. Next outfit I make will probably be for V3. But then I'm sure I'll get someone saying that they would purchase it if only it were made for V2.

c'est la vie :)

Dizzie ( ) posted Wed, 05 February 2003 at 11:04 PM

People don't want to use the V3-V2 because the V3 morphs won't work on the body, just the head...after all if I wanted to use V2 then why would I buy V3..... You can't please everyone all the time so just make what YOU want to make & enjoy making!

PhilC ( ) posted Thu, 06 February 2003 at 5:07 AM

Well this is good feedback, thanks.

So which body morphs should I Taylor into the outfit? For V2 I tended to include Waist, Hip soften, Natural, LayDown, Full, Droop, SuperHeroine, and Faerie. I can't honestly see the requirement for including a bicep morph, and what is the real difference between the V2 and V3 Natural Morph?

Phil, I just bought your dress. However, I do not have V3, and don't intend to buy her until she is absolutely necessary for a project. My opinion is that for a clothed figure covered in flounces, the additional body morphs simply aren't necessary. (The only thing it does is confer bragging rights on the creator of a picture when V3 is used.) If this was a swimsuit or underwear or supervillainess model, then maybe you'd need to see hag and male and voluptuous morphs in the garment. Square dances have 8 dancers per square, the caller and the musicians. Unless somebody has a camera shot down her neck, it is likely that none of the figures is going to be close enough to tell how closely those flounces graze her chest. I'd rather that you spent the time making something new and fun... just MHO. Carolly

Lucy_Fur ( ) posted Thu, 06 February 2003 at 11:18 AM

L I love the term 'flounces'. I haven't heard parts of a square dance dress called that. I have however heard the petticoates referred to as 'fluff' G

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 06 February 2003 at 11:21 PM

"Flounce" conveys movement, too, often of the perky sort, whereas "fluff" is usually just soft stuff. Gathers and ruffles are probably more correct... but not as much fun. ;^)
