Hmm, I don't know. Where does the big dark thing in front come from? Normally it should get some light from the sun. Have you done something like putting the cam inside a terrain, a box? Then there may be a problem while rendering. Maybe a memory problem, but as you have a powerful machine now, this should not be the reason. Have you tried to render to disk? If you want, you can send me the file and I will try. BTW a very nice image in speaking about the 50% top. Some trees needs to be displaced, they are in the water.
I was wondering if anyone would catch the wtareborne trees LOL. I'll upload it to you this afternoon when I get home (4:30 CST). I DO need to add some bushes and ground foliage, and rework the trees again. Could the problem be that I have SOOOO many trees? There are about 25-40 trees in this scene. They are all variations of the Maple/Fall maple. Would SO many objects in this scene be the problem? I have tried rendering grouped and ungrouped, still to no avail.
I'll have to check Yves. I'll post from home what I find though. I think that I tested the render speed difference once i booted my new PC up. I rendered the remembering home pic from my gallery. It only took about 1/4 of the time to render than it did with my other PC. SO, I think that it is picture specific. He Gebe, can I upload the file to this forum?? Or do you think that it'd be too big?
Gebe, I tried to email it to you this morning before I left for work. I had to RAR it, and even then it was still 6MB. The origianl scene, unzipped, was 39MB!! I didn't receive it here at work, where we don't have an email file size restriction, and am HOPING that you were able to get it. If not, please let me know what I can do to get it to you. I'd really like to see what is going on, and to see if you have probelms rendering it too. Thank you Gebe, Akenaton
No, I did not get it:-(. My provider only allows 4 MB files.)
There is a little time consuming trick tou could use:
Open your scene and delete (with the DEL touch on your keyboard, that's faster) the half of the objects of your scene and then zip this one. (Take care to save it under a NEW NAME, otherwise you will loose your original).
Then open again your original and delete the other half of objects you have not deleted in the first one and zip it.
Then you can send it in two parts and I just will do a copy/past of the objects from 1 to the other to make it complete.

I think winrar would be easier multi packed accross several files. When I have such problems with files like just the other day those seamless textures that's how I package them up. I make them self extracting so there is no goofups on the other end. Winrar is free for about 30 days. set it to best,self extracting, solid, recovery record and on the drop down on the left type in 1500000. It will make them no bigger than 1.5 meg each. Winrar files are almost half the size of zips depending on what you are zipping Vue files being one of those file types that work excellent. Noticed. I did a scene with a fountain and when it was rendering it practally stopped when it got to the water. It took about 24 hours just to render the water and looked like it had locked up actually. I think all those drops killed it. I changed the materal to the milk one with zero transparency the next time I had to render it and that slow render problem went away. The fountain looked better with the milk also. The water material didn't look real.
I'll have to try the milk out then. As a matter of fact, I think that I HAD the water set to milk, but then schose the animated polluted water for the falls. I tweaked the bump maps and did the same to the watewr at the bottom of the falls....which is a terrain. I HAD some mist on the original, but the misty/rainy texture that I used was KILLING the render times too. I double checked the render by hitting esc to stop the render, and most of the time, it was frozen. So I don't think that it was rendering anymore. I KNOW that i hae ample resources to do this, just don't know why it keeps tripping out. I think that I might install a 98se on a different drive, and run only vue on that OS. Just to see if it helps with the rendering and resources. SHOULD help a little I think, and that way I'll have a way to work without other garbage in the beackground. Probably be beter that way.
Never go with anyting micronot says about Vue. it will report it dead when it is not cause it's taking so long in calculating a row of pixels. Look at the Vue prosesor loading If is says vue is at 0% then it's dead all right other wise it should report something like 90% if it's crunchen numbers. There is a bunch of theads here to that effect complete with links to some really good programs to track vue and what it's doing.
I have tried to render your image since this morning in 600x450 and broadcast. When the anti-aliasing comes to the foamy part at bottom of the waterfall, it took: 87 minutes for 51% 144 minutes for 52% 208 !!! minutes for 53% when it started to render the 54th %, I stopped it. But no problem, I found the solution? Will send it to you as soon as I can. Guitta
OUCH, that is a pretty vicious anti-alias time. Wonder why it is doing that? I am anxious to hear what you do to it. I am sure that this will be a learning experiemnce for me. Gee that a nice picture there Guitta. !:) Ya anmimated water will kill ya even if you don't have transparency. Thing is other than slow the render to a crawl it really does not make much difference. Cloud effects work just as well. Um if you spend more time on this scene one thing I'd like to see is add so hills to the left side there of the falls to make it continous. The way that hill is now looks highly unlikly that it would ever exist. A water fall on a tiny mountian. Meaning there is a whole lake or river on top? It's unlikley. I only know of one mountain on the entire planet that sticks out of no where and has a lake on top and it's much bigger than that hill.

I just put together my first pic with my new PC. see link. My problem is that no matter what size I render the pic as, and no matter the quality, Vue locks up at the base of the falls. I HAD some mist in at the bottom, but removed it figuring that the volumetrics were too much for the render. Has anybody seen this before? The ONLY way that Iwas able to get this render to finish, was to set it to final (I wanted ultra or broadcast,)then everytime I saw that the percentage held for a moment I stopped the render. I would then resume render and it would push on. I had to repeat this process about 10-15 times to get the render to finish compeletely. ANY words of wisdom would be MORE than welcome. Thanks ALL!
