Subject: Purchasing poser5

Batesd ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 12:33 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 12:53 PM

Is it possible to get a downloadable version of poser5? I am the impatient type, and if I decide I want it, (Credit card in hand) then I want it RIGHT NOW. :-) (NOT gonna wait around for an undetermined time for the company to ship) The Curious labs sight SEEMS to indicate no, but I am not sure. I am looking for the propack to p5 upgrade. Is curious labs selling a downloadable version or not?

nope fraid not, it comes on 2 cd's with a printed manual & the propack isn't ready yet either :(

I recommend in all seriousness that you wait for Daz Studio. I purchased it and even after all the patches greatly prefer P4. I never even open P5. Regards, Brent

It's way too big for a download.

Let's put it this way. The 2 CDs contain 774MB of data. With my 768Kbps T1 connection, and if CL could upload as fast, it would take 27 hours to download the entire thing. Does that answer your question? ;)

hehe, "I purchased it and even after all the patches greatly prefer P4. I never even open P5." How do you know which you would have prefered if you never even opened it? Next time you feel like blowing hundreds of something you have no interest in, send it to me instead.

I have DSL and download 800meg movie files off the usenet all the time, only takes about 45minutes to an hour. I figured it would'nt be that much longer for P5 no matter HOW big it is. (They WOULD zip it, would'nt they?) Anyway, if I ca'nt get it downloadable than i guess I give up. I'll wait for DAZ studio.

So you want to dowwnload the whole thing and then decide if you want to pay for it... like those movies? Sure.

You should read the thread announcing DAZ studio (back a few days) : it looks that it won't be a Super Poser, but more like a link between Poser, LightWave and MAX. DAZ announced that it could load PZ3 and do " certain amount" of modifications to the scene. That's all. At least for the moment. Poser 5 is a good product now. Not as good as high end products, but not as expensive. It only imposes a stiff learning curve. Try to open it, so that you can see by yourself if you prefer Poser 4. If you don't want to, then I'd advise you send the box back to CL, you'll get a refund. Compiler

Did'nt say anything about downloading P5 for free: I just said I would prefer to have it delivered via the web rather than uncertain mail. Almost all of my software purchases are via the web, with many programs P5's size and larger. Why should P5 be any different?

BeatYourSoul ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 5:49 PM

Sorry about that. Appears that one of my "Enters" while doing the math didn't take. Yes, it would take me about 2-2.5 hours to get 774MB. They would probably zip it, but it would still be about 650-700MB (unless they used a high-compression ratio). But, let's look at this another way. Can you get C4D, 3DSMax, LightWave, SoftImage, Rhino, and countless other 3D apps by download? Nope to most. Just the way they work with this stuff, I guess. Wait for DAZ Studio, but be warned that the beta is going to be nothing more than rendering software until they get modules written for it. I'd contact CL sales and see if they can arrange a download if that's the only way you will accept it. The manuals are all available as PDF, so it shouldn't be too difficult for them. Let us know. :)

Ofcourse, you can download Poser 5! I dowloaded it in 2 days(just for testing it thou!) I download the bin/cue files(imagefiles) and burned it on 2 cd's. It works perfect! And yes, you can get the full version of C4D, 3DSMax, LightWave, SoftImage, Rhino by download! Easy! Remeber: Buy the product if you like it! /Pax Corpus

Pax you really shouldn't mention things like that, it gets people very hot under the collar, Warez is a big no-no round these parts.

BeatYourSoul ( ) posted Fri, 07 February 2003 at 10:08 AM

Pax, Warez is illegal, no matter if for evaluation or not. You can get LEGAL demo/trial versions of the other software you (and I) mentioned. And mentioning it too often here could get you banned from Renderosity. Secondly, your reasoning isn't working. If he were to acquire a downloadable version and decided to purchase it, how is he getting the legal version by download? BYS

Really, really thank you for all of your replys guys. My REAL reason for wanting p5 was the ability to sort my folders: I have (at last count) over 40gigs of poser stuff (Poser has its own 60gig drive) and my files list is ENORMOUS!!!! BUT!........ I just found a Program (Pboost) here at 'rosity that does essentialy the same thing, and for only $20 GREAT!!!! It works excellently, and my problem is temporarily solved. COOL BEANS!! :-)

BeatYourSoul ( ) posted Fri, 07 February 2003 at 7:27 PM

Excellent! Had you mentioned the library folders thing, a flood of responses would have pointed you directly to PBoost (maybe I missed your mention of the reason - doh!). The P5 libraries being able to be nested is a nice feature of P5. They could have patched P4PP with this one feature and saved themselves alot of trouble... ;)
