I thought you might find this of interest, especially if you use an alternate renderer like Bryce or Vue to render your poser objects. The technique demonstrated allows for ghosts with full color/full textures and none of the annoying x-ray effects commonly found when using the transparency method. I thought I would mention this again since I have a new Vue version of the tutorial up. Poser unfortunately does not have reflective glass, so this technique can't be used. Not sure if Poser 5 does or not.

The image itself is also a demonstration of what can be done with Vicky 3 morphs to turn her into a ghoulish fiend. So even if the technique doesn't strike ya, might be worth checking out for that.

The tutorials for both Bryce and Vue can be found on my website at http://www.shadowwindmanor.com in the tutorials section.

The picture can be viewed at the link above...

Thanks and hope you find some use for this...

This looks VERY interesting. Thanks for posting it. I don't understand it yet but it seems to work :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Hey Shadow, Love the image, but you know that I have been a long time admirer of your works :) How about submitting your tutorial to the Rosity New Tutorial Site :) Hint Hint Hint ;] ladynimue

This is excellent, I've been wondering how to make this possible and thanks to you now I can. Does it work well while in animation also?

ShadowWind ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 12:50 PM

I think that would depend on the situation Knight. It might get a little dicey if you had a ghostly figure behind something as you would have to remember to move the masking block (or whatever you were using) as well. In situations where the ghost is to be in front of the objects that are in the scene, it should work quite well...

Thank you ! I knew there had to be a way to get rid of the unwanted interior views you get in Poser :) Now if some brilliant mind would just figure out a way to do it in Poser, my joy would be complete ;)

Here is the effect done in Poser 5, no post. Took a while but, hey here it is :)

ShadowWind ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 4:13 PM

Very cool, glad to see the effect works in Poser 5. I guess it has glass like the other renderers?

Yeah, P5 has glass, but I couldn't get glass to work for me, so I made my own material for it. Here's a screen cap of the settings.

ShadowWind ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 4:28 PM

I can see that. I had to play around with the glass settings quite a bit in Bryce when I first did this. Vue was a little simplier in that respect. Very good indeed. That should cover most of the renderers that Poser people use...

Thanks and glad the technique sparked the interest... Now, I can't wait to see a bunch of ghost images...

raven ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 4:33 PM

I should mention that I turned off shadows for the square prop, and I checked Ray-Tracing in Firefly's render settings. Thanks for the inspiration, ShadowWind!

Ooops, out of sync a bit, I deleted the previous post due to bad spelling! :)

Wow, raven, I don't think I could have figured that one out. Nicely done and a great image too. Thank you for sharing your technique. And thanks to ShadowWind too!
