THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Is there any way to create a brand-new preset category?

Doublecrash ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 10:21 AM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 8:27 PM

Hello everybody. I'm creating lots of presets for a complex setting I'm planning to put together in the near future. I'm saving them under the "User" preset library. I tried to create one category for those new presets, but wasn't able to do it. Maybe some of you people out there know if this is possible in Bryce and, if it is, how can I do it? To be more clear (my English today is awkward): I would like to have another preset category other than those listed under "Installed" and the one library called "User". Thanx in advance. Stefano

This is something I'd really like to know about too.

you can go into the Bryce/Presets/Material(or objects, etc) and make a new folder. That will create a new category...

Are you sure Wadus?.............I tried that before and it didn't show up in the presets pop up box. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has achieved this. Catlin

I thought I would give it a try and it worked for me. I have Bryce 5 so not sure if it only works for this version or if it will work for earlier ones as well. I even imported a texture to make sure it was fully functional.

If you just want new categories, you'll have to find the file in the presets folder called "user.mat." Duplucate that file, and rename it to whatever category and the correct extension. For example: "metals.mat" or "scifi.obp" The .mat files you should stick in the materials presets folder, the obp in the objects presets folder. Or if you've created a new one like shown above, you'll can drag it into there also. Then when you open up the presets in bryce, you will see your new category on the left side, Then hit import and import one of the oter directories. Then you can delete the ones that you don't want there.

Wonderful, Brycefreak & Wadus & Madmax, it worked perfectly! Now I can begin to categorize the mess I've made in the libraries in these last months! :) Thanx a looot. Stefano

Anyway to get this to work with Bryce 4? Tried making the copy of the user objects category and renaming it and nothing happened. Is it possible theres something in the registry somewhere?

Bryce Librarian sounds really good. Anyone has tried it or uses it on B5?

D'oh! Thought I was all good to go. Turns out I need com32dlg.ocx... Any idea where I can get this... Any other weird files that I might need before this will work?
