Okay, not all the way, but we've got half the legs there!

Annd, to see how the mesh looks in Poser here we go with the first import of the OBJ so far (no materials set or anything)

andix ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 4:00 PM

mmmm, some nice geometry going on there. reminiscent of something you might have found in 2000ad comic, maybe 15 years ago....same sort of feel as the ABC Warriors, now there was a good strip...

lalverson ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 4:16 PM

you are torchering now...

I'm torcheiring? No, that's in the DLK 2. Just kidding, I know what you mean. The modelling is done. Now I have to make it posable. Hopefully it will be done some time tonight. The only things left to do are: 1) remap the shouldermajigger so it's easily texturable with a logo or word or something (right now that part's planar) 2) write and import the PHI 3) set the joint centres 4) strip out the affectors ('cos it's not bendy or anything) 5) clean up the CR2 and test it. B^)

lalverson ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 7:43 PM

You are really are an Addams aren't you?

_dodger ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 7:47 PM

Oh, yeah... the marketing and packaging decisions have been made as well. It will come as seen. Later I will release a 'JICC3000 Accessory Pack' containing: Extra left hands -- The alternate left hand(s) will include: Normal posable left hand with additional geometry and CR2 Photon Blade left hand with additional geometry and CR2 Circular Saw left hand (w that stuff above) and possibly: submachinegun left hand, tentacle left hand (the latter becomes more likely if someone is nice enough to buy me EasyPose B^) Also I intend to make a conforming 'clothing' type figure for him that will contain all the dangly wires and stuff as seen in the sketch. These can't go right into the mesh because you can either have mechanical joints or organic joints, not both at once, and the wires would require JPs. Also intended in the add-on pack, additional texture sets!

I'm considering a rocket launcher arm, too, but I dunno... the millenioum kids might swallow the projectile. B^)

Jackson ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 7:55 PM

Very nice! PS: It was Lieutenant Dan, wasn't it?

_dodger ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 7:56 PM

Don'tcha get a promotion when you get your legs blown off?

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sat, 08 February 2003 at 10:50 PM

Please don't get me wrong, I'm excited by what you have created. Compared to your Ref pic the legs of the model seem, well, whimpy and rather thin and the feet too small for the rest of the model. From the waist up it's a rather formitable robot, waist down, well you get my meaning. Maybe I'm the only one that notices and it's not a biggy. thought I would share.

BTW, Machineclaw, it's the camera angle. I was thinking that myself but noly after the Poser import cause it looked fine in Max... but when I changed the focal and camera angle I got a totally different look. That was taken at just off the default camera in P4, so it's good for the chest and stuff but a terrible angle for the legs.

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 5:30 AM

Besides, there's always the scale dialles if you want the legs to look bigger. Taper isn't disabled either.

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 5:32 AM

Oh, BTW -- no postwork on that.

lalverson ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 11:04 AM

and you are loving it... BTW looks great.. got the cc all warmed up..

William ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 1:36 PM

This is very inspirational. I can see some Magnus:Robot Fighter type renders being done. I wonder if JICC3000 goes "squeeee..."

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 3:40 PM

People said he reminded them of something, and I think I know what.... I didn't intend this, mind you, buuuut... after building him, I myself have felt that there was something reminiscent about him, and I think I have pegged it, possibly... to me, he looks reminiscent both of the Battle Droids from The Phantom Menace and of SCUD, the Disposable Assassin

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 4:36 PM

file_45171.jpg

Being inspired by anime droids, of course, JICC Knows a bit of karate. Now if we could get him to stop beating up the other robots. (Figure on the right is JICC3000, coming soon from Dodger Designs, figure on the right is DAZ's Droid (D-Bot) available on DAZ for $1.99 Platinum Club price.)

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 7:22 PM

So I'm setting the limits and my Poser just decides to lock up on me. And I was gonna save after this one thing... Of course.

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 7:24 PM

Isn't it amazing how much spit you can get on your monitor whilst making up new curse words?

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 8:28 PM

LOL The comaprison of bots in your pic helps, still like the thick legs of the Daz bot, but diversity is a wonderful thing. I welcome the addition. Looking forward to your bot.

_dodger ( ) posted Sun, 09 February 2003 at 8:45 PM

Yup, and as I said, there's always the taper dialle.

Taper -15% on both shins. Just like the original sketch (except with correct perspective of course)

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 10 February 2003 at 3:09 AM

original sketch for comparison

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 10 February 2003 at 3:12 AM

Got the JPs set. Got the limits done. Got the hand poses made. Got the full poses made. Don't need any face poses B^) Now I just have to make textures and bumpmaps and MAT poses for it.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 10 February 2003 at 9:14 AM

The taper on the legs helps and I like it a lot :)

MachineClaw ( ) posted Mon, 10 February 2003 at 10:21 AM

Okay, now that's what I'm talkin about! taper helped a lot I think, gave Jic3k more balance. Wooooo I think a lot of $5 bills are headed your way, haha.
