Subject: What does get rendered?

I was wondering if you conform clothes to a figure does the surface of the figure (eg skin) covered by the clothes still get rendered even if its not seen? If yes, Should these surfaces be made transparent so as not to use up render cycles? Just wondering as my PC is steam age tech.

Actually mouser, I just turn off (as opposed to making it transparent) the body part using the hierarchy editor if it's not seen. My biggest concern is poke through that occurs in some poses, where the skin pokes through the conformer. Don't know about CPU usage, but it seems to make sense.
