Subject: Don't know about the rest of you, but I DON'T LIKE THIS

All the starlet maps have circles under the eyes that look awful in a render. I'm going to touch all mine up. Can't convince me that anyone really thinks it looks nice.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 9:11 PM

rasberries I did them and like them. You are being way harsh. Why not show a render. The ones on the site look pretty enough. :) Btw. Please don't post images of the flat maps, even in pieces. Thanks. Anton

I do like them. they add considerably to the realism of the character - less plastic-looking. To each his own, but I much prefer realism over gloss.

pendarian ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 9:41 PM

Anton, did you see this thread? There are some questions about the new textures. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=1105021 It's a few pages back so I thought you may not have seen it. I too prefer realism over the plastic and gloss any day also. Anton, you did a really nice job with these textures and the first ones also. Pendy

I think the makeup is awesome. But, maybe I'm the only one who thinks she looks like she needs a nap. I tried bunches of lights and still get the tired looking circles.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 10:06 PM

SHe is very pretty. Looks like Yvonne Craig. To each his own. Looks real to me. :) pizazz, just clone it out if you don't like it. It's not like there are scabs or boils. :) Pendarian. I think the person in the other thread has a eyebrow trans active from a previous mat. as you can see in our ad images and this one, it is not part of the map.

Thanks Anton. I couldn't really tell, because the hair was in the way on the ad images :) I appreciate you answering that :)

PheonixRising ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 10:10 PM

Hey pizazz, that other thread was yours too. What was causing the second string of hairs?

...And another deer caught in the headlights! what is it with the highlight >>>between<<< the eyes? Does it happen with all Vicky3 images? Carolly

I figured the eyebrow thingy out... It's pulling from the bump map on the original textures... Took it out and it's fine.

Carolly. It is a natural phenomenon when human faces are brightly lit. Similar to cheek bones. Also a technique and look make up artists recreate. Here is a sample from someone I knew and admired, the late Kevin Aucoin

Pizazz, you state that it's pulling from the bump map. I don't know what you mean by that and, given you are correct, how does one "take it out."

pizazz ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 10:30 PM

Go to render materials, eyebrows, and down in the left hand corner of the box, hit the tab and put bump NONE. I am right because I've been fighting this all day...

PheonixRising ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 10:35 PM

pizazz, that makes sense. Sorry that happened. :( I'll talk to someone. In the meantime you can clone over the brows on the bump map for a bump that won't do that

Pizazz, thanks for your speedy answer.

pizazz ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2003 at 10:55 PM

Gawd, after all that, it's not the eyebrows bump, its the head.... Turn off the bump on the head material.

fauve ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 12:17 AM

Kevin Aucoin... what a genius the man was. I have that book where he made up various celebrities to look like other people. It's a testament to the power of makeup. They all look completely unlike their usual image, and also completely gorgeous.

Petunia ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 1:28 AM

I like very much this second set because she looks a little older, rather than an 18 year old. So many older women have a much better look to them than when they were younger.

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 2:30 AM

Hey, that makeup chart picture is almost how I generally do my own makeup. does that mean I'm doing it right?

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 3:10 AM

Anton, I'm not complaining about the light and shadow on the skin (that is traditional for glamour shots)... what bugs me is the highlights in the EYES. They shouldn't both be in the middle as though a light source was >>>inches<<< from her face. Image after image shows those white spots on her pupils. I thought the whole purpose of having another sphere for the eyes in these models was to have something transparent to reflect the lights in the scene. Highlights and light sources must line up, or the image screams fake... like a painted dolly. Carolly

PheonixRising ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 4:20 AM

yeah Misti, you must be doing it right. Carolly, There are three types of highlights you are seeing in V3 renders 1) the ones from the surface settings caused by the lights 2) the ones available in the maps 3) a combination of both. All are up to the user. Alot of what you are seeing is being generated by the lights. I'm sorry I thought you had V3. I misunderstood your first post. :) I know everyone has personal preferences but a few of you are starting to scare me. Anton

Anton, I have all the v3 maps and they ar all excellent realistic, but the Starlet needs a different bump map I think for the brows, get us inform about update. :)

LOL @ Anton! Me? Intimidating??? Dan will tell you that in person I'm as sweet as pie... (raspberry-rhubarb) Users are lazy for the most part (otherwise they wouldn't be buying all these products), but also many of them don't see all the details, the same way that someone who is used to painting would see them. Eyes are something that most of us struggle with, so we pay particular attention to them. It looks like most people putting images in this forum are not removing the highlights which are painted onto the V3 maps, no matter what light source(s) may be in the scene. With highlights between the eyes, their images are always going to look odd. Part of doing art is learning how to make it look right. Carolly

I like 'em..... some of them remind me of Dynasty... Very 80's... Lots of eye shadow... hehehe nothing wrong with tons of 'slap' ifs its done well!!! I love the Starlet maps, I think they are better than the first make up maps. I can't fault them at all. They have more depth to me.. and the new hazel eyes are superb. Great Job Anton ;) Personally I have worn a lot of make up, to me its an art.. I spend a lot of time doing it. Luv SimderZ -Pic is me- "do i have enough eyeshadow on???" *giggles*

I like the lines under the eyes because they look real-- only children-- and not even them always-- have lineless, flawless skin. I am confused about the painted highlights in the Daz eyes. Those eyes are quite capable of generating their own highlights-- how do we get the painted ones out? Do we have to repaint the eyes? Not good. I don't have the skills. On the bump map, what is the final call? Head bump? I'm not leaving a head bump off-- I'll repaint if I have to there-- not happy about it though. Don't get me wrong, I love this texture-- every tex that has come out for V3 from Daz has, well, dazzled me. I'll probably add in the undereye lines for the first makeup maps, they're wonderful. PheonixRising ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 3:12 PM

To not use the reflections you turn the maps off the pupils and make them black. Come'on guys you know this stuff. :(

queri ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 3:36 PM

No, Anton, I did not know this stuff--I've not been using 5 for very long and before that I never had maps on pupils. She's new, Anton, you may have been working with her for awhile-- but to us she's new, and a lot of us don't understand all of it. I'd read the manual but there isn't one for this, is there? Emily

Simderella ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 3:37 PM

JoeyAristophanes ( ) posted Tue, 18 February 2003 at 6:36 PM

This is buried so deep no one will notice this, but I really hate that stupid line under her eye. It doesn't look real, it looks more like whoops, made a mistake, too late to fix it. Even on the renders it looks stupid.

leather-guy ( ) posted Tue, 18 February 2003 at 6:42 PM

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. In this case I don't agree. I like the bit of extra realism.

pendarian ( ) posted Tue, 18 February 2003 at 7:14 PM

I like it too, it does add a bit of realism makes the images look like the models actually have a bit of personality instead of digital barbie dolls for a change :) It's nice that it's there, that we have a choice, it can be very easily touched up if you want to get rid of it. A lot easier to touch up to get rid of it then to try to put it in :)
