hi all for those of you that have been following the process for developing fur for Poser, I have an update. the original model that I was making was a fur coat. The coat looks great..except I can not figure out yet how to make the collar for it. The image shows it without the collar and minus some trim work that will dress up the rough fur edges...this is a raw poser render. anyhow, I think I bit off more than I can chew right now in regards to this coat..so I moved on to a much less technical model that is made up of cylinders..which this fur loves. It hates flat surfaces.... maybe I need to add more hair meshes to it to fix that or I may need to change the way the hair is made on flat surfaces..perhaps using a curved surface instead of flat polys. or maybe I need to redesign the collar..perhaps using s shorter version of the fur boa as the collar instead of a flat collar? See the next image for a pict of the fur boa. does this look like a fur coat and boa? BT

here is the boa..raw poser render..no postwork other than cropping the image sides. perhaps wrapping this around the collar area, running it down the front, and wrapping it around the bottom? Or maybe just the collar. I'd need to look at the overall poly count before I could put it all over the coat. BT

To me, it looks like one of those cute little chunky Angora jackets young women used to wear (maybe they still do...it's been a long time since I've been aware of fashion).

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 10:50 AM

The boa looks more like fur. I wish that was a fashion that wasn't coming back in real life.

Boy it sure does look good though...Sharen

brycetech ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 11:01 AM

so ladies (and gents), how about a suggestion/opinion on how to handle the collar? do you think putting a boa-type collar on it would be ok? I dont know how fur coats look..I just assumed a flat collar, but do you think a round one would work? BT

Can't help...never owned a fur coat and never will. But I bet you could go on the Internet and find a million sites that show different collars. Such as the link attached.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 11:37 AM

I also can't help, never owned one either and never will, but I would take dialyn's suggestion. Sharen

pdxjims ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 12:07 PM

Put a short version of the boa on the collar of the jacket. Or make it a leather/fur combination with a big, smooth leather collar. BTW, they both look great. And since it's made up of only bits and bytes, no real animal was harmed in any way. I wonder how the method would look on a matching men and women's bikini set... hint, hint (grin).

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 12:11 PM

Oh I know, wouldn't that be like that movie 1 Million BC with our own Rachel Welch....I can picture it, Vicky in a Cave with Mike, eating a dinosour in their new garments. Sharen

pdxjims ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 12:19 PM

Sharen, You read my mind (grin). Jim

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 12:24 PM

Oh, don't you think we all saw that Rachel Welch flashback thing happening? I may be wrong, but I don't think they could chomp on dinosaurs...wrong era. But we don't want reality entering into the mix, do we? I've seen some guys on the beach who could wear fur swim wearand no one would know where they left off and the swimwear started. NOT my idea of a fantasy. :(

Hi BT, Sorry to admit it, but I once had a fur coat/jacket, and if I remember correctly........it didn't have a collar at all. It was much like the one you created above, but it was a little longer, down past my hips. The boa looks great, and I think if you put a little "foxes" head on one end it would look like the mink stoles I remember seeing in the movies when I was a kid. Please don't misunderstand anyone, as I would never own another fur coat, but when I was younger, I saw things in a very different way. I hope you all understand. (: Genny

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 1:09 PM

Not to worry Genny. We all have to take that into account, between the 40's, 50's, 60' and etc. life if always a little different. Sharen :-)

Thanks Sharen. (: Genny

I had a rabbit fur collar and muff complete with little feet when I was very young...I had the deluded notion that they shaved rabbits like they do sheep. I couldn't wear it after I found out the truth. I know fur is back in style among young people now. I don't quite understand it but I know it's a fact of life, and one shouldn't judge another's taste in clothes even if one deplores it. I wouldn't wear latex either and there are no latex beasties as far as I know. But you're right about the boa...if it's supposed to be a real one, it should have a head and the ones I remember had the feet too. Sometimes more feet than one animal could provide.

A Furry Boa?!?! Now I've heard it all! My boas always had scales?

Ive got images of boas that have tails, heads, and nothing on them. Since this is the first one, Im probably gonna skip on the 'head' thing until I get a better grip on what can and cannot be done. Ive added more versatility in the way the hair can be lengthened and shortened. while making this one tho, Ive learned a lot and see lots of areas where more versatility could be added via different material zones, but talk about more time to set it up..whew! its actually a scary thought..lol (maybe at a later date) I do plan to make boots, earmuffs, a hat, and yes..even a furry bikini. I actually found where they sell one (Ive seen everything now) and got some images from the site. Im really leaning toward wrapping the boa around the top as a collar...Maybe stretching it wider so its not quite so round. Its gonna take FOREVER to make a tutorial on this..and it wont be for the faint of heart either :P tnx for the input BT

genny ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 2:03 PM

You know BT, are you sure you just didn't scan your cat or dogs tail? This looks soooooo Real. (: Can't wait until they are ready, it looks great so far. Genny

It really is amazing! How real that looks.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 3:26 PM

May I have it in white... with small black spots?

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 3:58 PM

heyas; bt, what if you take the round boa and smush it flat, more like a pancake shape, for the collar? not TOO flat so it gets messed up, but just not so high and round.

I don't intend to hijack your thread, brycetech, but I just wanted to say that yours look a lot better than my attempts, close-up. Admittedly, my textures are relatively low-resolution ....

DraX ( ) posted Sun, 23 February 2003 at 6:53 AM

faint of heart? Bah! I so love a challenge

zukeprime ( ) posted Tue, 25 February 2003 at 4:35 AM

Brycetech, I hope I didn't miss this earlier, but are you going to post your techniques...or will this be proprietary and featured in the marketplace. I, for one, am dying to know how you did this...I've got ideas, but a little faint of heart to try without some "direction" Looks great by the way!!
