check out a plugin from Reiss studio for Poser Plugin, its little hefty in price thoughPoser totally ignores external smoothing and always does it's own - might as well just strip out the normals cause they just waste disk space. Also, to add to what BYS said, no lights! "why doesnt obj from may show up in poser 4? " Are you getting anything in the pop-ups under the main window? Especially under the Props sub-category? If there's something there, does it still not show up when rendered? The RT preview is real picky about which way the faces point and which way the object is "wound" (vertex list order) but usually renders these types OK.
Yes but if it doesn't import smoothly, it isn't worth the price. I use the Max plugin, it is pretty decent, the Cinema4D plugin doesn't load any of the textures, and Lightwave is confusing to me. Of course I haven't spent much time with Cin4D or Lightwave, since they are on a friend's system. For the cost though, it should make me breakfast in the morning. I just wish I could use Maya for more projects considering how much I spent on it.
The C4D Poser plugin loads the textures just fine. The only problem (known) is that it doesn't set the "transparencies" to "alphas" so that they work correctly in C4D. As I don't have Maya, it is of no interest to me whether it works or not. Still, I'm surprise that it doesn't considering how highly regarded Maya's scripting (MEL) is. BYS
we're using Reiss here . havent quite worked it all out , but its definitely useful. My issue with obj.s out of maya has been solved by opening in text editor (BBEdit) and comparing to an obj text from poser. I removed an extra line from the maya file that had t do with default group or something and everything was hunkey-dorey.......
dergfour, how much "tweaking" do you have to do with transparancies and texture values??? I guess walk paths, cameras and lights are a bit too much to ask for? I would like to render animations in something other than Poser, due to the time and lack of special effects. BeatYourSoul, am I doing something wrong with C4D, the textures do not import with the PZ3. Are there any steps that I am missing? I didn't have too much time to play with it. Mark
Maya will only import an OBJ file using UNIX formatting, not windows or Mac. So if you open the OBJ in BBedit (or other capable text editng program) and "save as", make sure UNIX is selected as the format and you get an OBJ file that will import into Poser without problem! I have used the Reiss plug in for Maya. It works really well. And Josh Reiss is a really super nice guy. If you did happen have any issues I'm sure he could work them out right away.
