I have sometimes seen when I put out work here at Renderosity that my images have become so much darker then the originals. When I see them both at the same time I can see a great difference in colours and brightness. Does someone hav an idea why this is happening.

Ya your graphics program and your browser are using different monitor profiles probably. How to fix? Hmm good question. I use a global profile for my entire computer. It comes with my monitor, sort of like a driver but not really. It's the gamma that is doing it. Try turning it up a bit. Where to find it? Good question. Could be hidden in lots of places. Your graphics program depending what you use might have gamma built right in. Chances are the browser is right and the graphics program is wrong cause the browser does not let you adjust it. So open up you graphics program click help and then search for gamma. If you find it turn it down a bit till the image in that program matches the browser. Then from there you can see the actual brightness of your images. You might have to increase them a bit. There is also spots on the web where you can test your monitor setting. Do a seach on google.

Are you on a PC or a Mac? It makes a difference. I'd hazzard a guess that it's a mac because most Mac's have a differant standard setting for Gamma than PC's. Most Mac browsers adjust to the PC standard for Gamma, while most Mac graphic apps default to the Mac Gamma. Check your work in your browser before posting.

I use PC, not Mac. When the image is finished I use the command "save for internet" in photoshop. This may cause the darken of my images. Next time I will try something different before publishing. To mightypete: I will do a gamma test and setup to see if this make any difference.

DON'T USE SAVE FOR INTERNET. It's stupid. It's a old system that only uses 256 ugly colors. Show me one computer that still has a browser with such restrictions. Just save them as jpg. Photoshop has the profile setup built right in. Run that part and set up your computer. If you have problems search in photoshop for color settings. Best is try to find the profile for RGB for your monitor in the drop down window that appears there. Edit/ color settings/ Also look in the control panel for a icon called adobe gamma. Here you can make your own profile exactly then in photoshop pick that profile for rgb in the color settings part. Give it a good name so it will stick out. YES THIS ONE RIGHT HERE MY MONITOR PROFILE.icm. If you got adobe gamma program there run the wizard. It's in Windows control panel.
