Pretty close, there, Mateo. Metacreations was retooling RayDream and Infini-D into Carrara. They had a mostly ready software package and released it. Then Metacreations sold out, leaving users with a very buggy but very promising software package called Carrara. It wasn't until M. Clappier of Eovia finally got rights to the code that Carrara 2 came out; most of the bugs were removed; and new, seriously powerful and professional tools were added. RayDream Studio was a stunningly powerful piece of software (particularly when you consider how inexpensive it was), and Carrara has finally become a child of RayDream that the old software can be proud of. - Dex
Ja, RDS 5.5 is basically Carrara without the "intuitive" interface (pleh) or the particle engine. You can't buy it normally now (unfortunately), but if you find an auction or something it might be handy to get- I at least find it much easier to model in than Carrara, and if you add in some of the free plugins it's got nearly the same functionality.
I just found new boxed versions of RayDream Studio 5.5 for AU$100, If anyone wants me to see how many copies I can get, let me know. I was looking at it partly because of the Paint3D feature, and looking for something to train up a few colleagues in basic 3d work, from video editting. Don Have a great day

sorry to ask such a dumb question, but when refering to Raydream, does this forum mean Ray Dream Studio? if so, then what's the latest (or final) version created of Raydream Studio? and who owns it now?
