Subject: Is it legit to sell a remap this way?

wadams9 ( ) posted Thu, 20 February 2003 at 9:17 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 11:53 AM

I want to sell some textures that work with a specific remap I've made. Can I include the .uvs data of the remap and instructions how to save it to copy of the orig Vicki with UVmapper? Or does evan a .uvs file contain proprietary Vicki info I can't distribute?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I think you're safe with the .uvs as it will only work for someone who already has vicky installed, it can't be used on any other figure to turn them into vicky.

Well, I certainly couldn't make anything out of the .uvs file, but there looks like a lot of information in there. I'm glad to get your opinion, c1rcle. Anyone disagree?

heyas; no, that's fine. you can doublecheck on the uvmapper site, or ask steve cox, but i don't think there's a restriction on selling remaps via uvs files.

Sounding good. And you're right, I should ask Steve.

always best to get at least 2 opinions :) I'm actually surprised this thread didn't get more attention seeing as it's on a topic that seems to be getting hot again.

These days, the more common solution is to create a .PCF file, encoded vs. the original .OBJ. That way, you can be certain the recipient can't make heads or tails of the information, without the original.
