THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Hey all...

I have what could pose to be a tough question. I'm looking at a picture of the inside of the Astrodome and I would like to re-create the picture in a way...but I'm having an awful time trying to come up with a way to make the oval-shaped stands. I've tried creating thin "plates" out of cubes but it isn't getting the effect I want. I am aiming to create a circle of sorts and can't think of a good way to do it. Am I reaching beyond the scope of Bryce on this one? :( MadDog31 PS...when I get home, I'll post a pic of what I want to MAYBE do. I'm just playing around with the idea right now.

I think I am missing what you're after. Using a flattened cylindar with the center cut out and then skewed into an oval doesn't work?

Here's a pic of what I'm looking at doing...keep in mind that I'm setting the bar high and could completely rack my computer b/c I'm not sure if this is beyond Bryce or not...check it out... Anyhow, I'm strugging to figure out a way to create the oval in this shot...once I get one level made, I can easily copy down and modify the rest...it's the start that's the problem. I've tried doing small plates of sorts with flat shapes out of cubes and then rounding them out in a circle, but it's not a smooth circle transition through it all. Any ideas? MadDog31

Something like this work? The turquoise bits were tall rectangles set with an attribute of intersect. I dropped a large Sphere set to positive down on them. That gave me the ridges. I made that whole group positive and cut it again with a cylindar to make the center whole bigger. The wood textured piece is two orbs one positive one negative to get a bowl shape. Again I made the group positive and cut it with a negative cylinder. I didn't take the needed time to get it to fit the ridges correctly but I think it gets you close to where you're trying to go. I shot for two levels here...just by copying, shrinking, lowering. That help?

That's getting to the effect I want to get...that has given me some food for thought that's for sure. Thanks for taking the time to help me out on this issue. I hope to do this project soon...it'd be a miracle if I could. Although I wonder if it'd be easier in a different program...not sure. I'll worry about that at a later point. I'm gonna earmark this thread though. MadDog31

Would this help. I used the gray/gradient image to create 1 terrain. The original was then duplicated, scaled 2 times, and adjusted to fit as desired. I've included the gray image if you could use it. The gray image was made in Illustrator.

Here's the gray image.

Nice...I like that approach better I think.

WOW...that is an excellent approach. I'll have to see what I can design together using that method...it looks like it'll get a tad closer as to what I would be looking to do. Claymor-I checked your idea over too and it gave me some more thinking...your idea also stirred up some thoughts so thank you also! I will apply these soon!!!! MadDog31 PS...I may try that in Photoshop to see what kind of effect I'll get. I'll keep in touch.
