You need to convert the obj's with Maconverter, otherwise Poser won't recognize the files. I don't know about Strata3d but I have tried obj-files from Cinema4d. After conversion with Maconverter they can be imported into Poser.MarianneR, Thanks, that's exactly what we needed for the obj format. We've also noticed we can apply new textures in Poser where the textures had been in Cinema4D. :) ldynghtwng, That 3DS converter sounds like what we are looking for, would anyone know the exact name? Maybe we could find it on the net ourselves if it's still around...

OR ... another thought. "Doesn't see the files at all" do you mean in the dialog box when you are trying to import? The: Get the marvellous free application Maconverter (see link), run the files through that. It converts the filetypes to the ones Poser expects. Then the files will appear in the dialog box! Thanks for all the helpfull feedback, we've got some positive results. I've just tried putting a 3ds file through Maconverter, and much to my surprise now Poser on my mac sees it! So with maconverter I can now see obj and 3ds files in the import menu dialog. I've managed to import a large model with 16000 polygons via obj, but when I tried with 3ds it would see it in the dialog but the application quit when I hit open! I've assigned 130mb to poser, maybe I should give it more? A second test I did with 3ds worked better, I only imported part of the large model and that bit came in fine. Is 3ds more memory hungry when opening files than obj? Odd, the 3ds files are smaller on the hard disk so I thought they would be best for uploading to the marketplace...
Patricia, Cinema4D will import lwo files very well, and has good export formats, but it's rather expensive... We started with Strata3D years ago, and it has very few export formats so we've begun using Amapi version 4 lately as a file converter since it opens Strata3D files saved in the Amapi format. Then Amapi exports to many other formats from there. You might be in luck with Amapi, as we got a free, fully functional promotional version. You might be able to find someone else with the free CD, or find a link on the net. Hope that helps...

Hi everyone, We've got a huge pile of 3d models in Strata3d and Cinema4d, and we're trying to import some of them as props into Poser 4 for mac. We are disappointed that even though is says on the box it can import obj and 3ds files on a mac, the manual tells us it won't import 3ds on mac at all. Has a new plugin been released we don't know about? It doesn't say anywhere we have seen that it can't import obj on macs, but when we try to do that, it doesn't seem to see the files at all... Our plan B would involve using our PC with poser4 on it to do the work instead, but that would not be as efficient. Is that the only option for us? Thanks for any feedback. :)
