Subject: making good boulders/cliffs

Hello everyone-- I need a little help. I am trying to do an image sorta like the following: http://www.shiftedreality.com/cgi-bin/imagefolio/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=wallℑ=tribute_to_jc.jpg&img=18&tt= What I cannot figure out how to do readily is making the boulder/cliffs he used in the foreground (on the left and right). I have tried terrains, and cannot get it. I have also tried using resized rocks, but to me the rocks seem to jagged and have sharp edges etc (low poly count I guess). If anyone could help me to make these items that would be sweet. And what I mean is to tech me how to do it (not do it for me).. thanks in advance

You will have to work a little on your terrain to create cliffs in taking off some parts with the airbrush tool and in palying around in the treeain editor:-).

And if you spoke about the foreground, just use rocks and apply a mixed material. Or use a terrain which you place like this (image above). Of course the camera angle is important too.

thx guitta ... since I am technically a "bryce convert" (lol) the vue terrain editor is taking some time to get accustomed too. Yes, I was referring to the foreground, mainly foreground left. I have been unable to create something similar to that using either the terrain or the rocks. Is there some way to make rocks look better? Seems to me like when you resize 'em they get very jagged and don't look very realistic at all, or at least not like in that pic ... thanks again

One way I get boulders is to take a terrain, clip it, and go to the effects tab in the terrain editor and press "Rocks". This makes rounded shapes on your terrain. Once you go back into the scene, squish down the terrain and resize it as you like, and put it under the surface of your water or your main terrain, with just the tops of the rocks sticking out. You can increase the resolution of the rock terrain to get better quality.

Where can you press "rocks" in the effects tab of the terrain editor Djeser???? Do you have a different Vue then I (LOL)? Guitta

Sorry, it's "Stones" not rocks. I don't have Vue on this machine, it's on another that was rendering when I posted. You're correct as always, Guitta.
