Subject: I suck at shaders... help please...

headgamer ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2000 at 9:10 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 11:24 AM

Guys, someone please help me out here with shaders. I haven't been able to get the Carrara Bible yet, so don't have a good source for the shader trees. I want to make a shader of old weathered wood planks for a floor, but cannot seem to get anything looking right. Can anyone help me out with something like this? Clint? Mark? Beuller? Beuller? Anyone? Any help much appreciated... HG...

Hey headgamer, download the DCG Shader Pack1 which is free. Then in the Carrara content there are textures many of wood. Then add noise from the shader pack1 and it will trun out nice. Dave

plank.jpg Of course the most obvious way is to use one of the excellent wood texture maps on the Carrara CD and tile it if you need to. However, texture maps have there own set of issues like obvoious seams or patterns. The above is a Procedural Texture Map that uses both of the free extensions from DCG and Lost Horizons (Thanks you two!!) The secret to believable wood is a good bump map. Hope that this helps.
