Subject: Interpreting .cr2 file twist and joint channels?

BeatYourSoul ( ) posted Thu, 06 February 2003 at 11:36 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 6:43 AM

I've found enough information to decode most of the .cr2 file (Autopsy web pages and obvious conclusions), but there is a lack of description for the joint channels and their parameters (especially the sphereMatsRaw, which I assume - which I shouldn't do, I know! - represents the Sherical Falloff Zones). What relationship do the parameters play in Poser (Joint Parameter Editor, Hierarchy Editor, Setup Room, Parameter Dials, etc) and what does each specifically represent? Thanks, BYS

heyas; spherematsraw are the 'use spherical falloff zones' things. if you open the jp window in poser, you'll see pretty much the same info that is in the cr2 text jp (the joint/joint/twist). for example, on a twist bar, you'll see the high end and low end and start or whatever. on the bend x, you will see the dynamic/static abcd nonsense, with numbers and all. and the dobulge numbers, etc etc. that's it, really. they are the joint parameters' parameters, just like seen in the jp window.

That's what I thought. Still going to be difficult to interpret the sphereMatsRaw values. Here's another one: Despite what some have discovered about the .cr2 file (ala Autopsy), there is more than meets the eye. For instance, I have discovered that one can include "prop" with the "actor" list as well as an alternative form of "storageOffset" which points to an "objGeomFile" with two values that are unknown: objGeomFile 0 0 ::Runtime:Geometries:ProPack:blGlasses.obj Can anyone disclose any information about the structure of the .cr2 file? There is more to this file than even the most thorough explanations have given so far. BYS

heyas; well, you can read all about it in my forthcoming book ;) props in a cr2/pz3 are really pretty common. they basically follow the pp2. the spheremats raw, i think are the center coordinates and the... well, whatever numbers produce a spheroid shape. or something. (okay, well, the spheremats aren't in the book!)

;) So, what's the book called and when should it be expected to be released into the "wild"? :) Thanks again, BYS

heyas; it's 'secrets of figure creation in poser 5.' um, or 'with' poser 5, i forget. or just 'secrets of figure creation,' because it's for poser 3, 4, pro pack, and 5. if i don't have to do another rewrite.... ::cringe:: um... i dunno. it's in production now, so soonish.

I think the "0 0" in the line: objGeomFile 0 0 ::Runtime:Geometries:ProPack:blGlasses.obj is a MAC file reference offset thingy, similar to the numbers after a texture file reference. It is used as a "shortcut" to the file on MACs. H:)

Darn Mac users making things complicated again! ;0) BYS
