Subject: Problem with Pose Menu

Jenai21 ( ) posted Mon, 24 February 2003 at 4:55 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 8:04 AM

Hello All, I have a problem with my pose menu I have a lot of files in there so much so that it won't let me view the catagories further down the list to view them I have to change the name to make it earlier in the list. Is this a common problem and if so does anyone know a way around this. Thanks in Advance. Jenn

No scroll arrow at the bottom of the list? That works for me, but it's not idea because I still have to dig through so many poses.

One other thing that has helped me unclutter things a bit putting all the near useless Curios Labs poses in a separate folder and compressing it with Winzip. I never use the any of the P4 figures anyway, and I can always unzip them if I ever need them.

There is a limit in P4. Don't recall specifically... 99?, 255? One other note, been scrolling these suckers forever and only recently noticed that hitting a key will jump down the list alphabetically. smacks forehead DOOH!

Classic? I noticed in your screen capture that the popout menu displays the complete filename, mine only displays a few letters of each file. In a MAT file I only get the first four letters and cant tell what the heck the file is. Is there any way around this?

I guess I reached my limit this sucks. I also have the same problem with it not showing the whole name. I wish there was a way to set preferences. That would make things easier.

Jenai21 If you have that many files you really need to get PBooost . Its will clear that all up reall fast and make your poser more manigable. Either that or its time to start renaming the poses to face or lights folders . Its only going to get worse and you will never find stuff whne you need it.

...Rotting melons, dried-up mustard, Eggshells mixed with lemon custard, Cold French fries and rancid meat, Yellow lumps of Cream of Wheat. At last the garbage reached so high That finally it touched the sky, And none of her friends would come to play, And all of her neighbors moved away; And finally, Sarah Cynthia Stout Said, "Okay, I'll clean Poser's Library out!"

I was thinking, one possible reason for the pose names getting truncated might be that the display adapter is NOT set to display small fonts. Mine is set at "small fonts (96dpi)" and I never have this problem. Larger fonts are easier to read but you can't fit as much lettering across a fixed window size.

Then again, maybe this is problem is caused by the number of pose folders exceeding that limit that was mentioned.

I have 59 pose folders in my Pose directory, so we know the limit must be higher than that.

it is indeed when the number of files becomes too large that the names starts to get trunkated. Often it's the first sign of "overflow", next thing you know is that you can only select things from the first categories, meaning for instance, that everything starting wiht V as Vickie is out of the question. So far the only folder I've had this happen to was my Pose folder, but after I moved all MAT poses to my camera folder, it works again. I have PBooost, and it's great, but it's not necessary to move things from Pose- to camera folder. Just move them and use a program like CKRename to rename all the pz2 to cm2 (or lt2 if you choose to use the Lights folder instead ;o) ) Then if THIS isn't enough, it's time for PBooost :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Hiyall... Yeah... you're either just about to, or you're already reached the 255 folder limit. The names can be truncated or items fail to show up at all! I wrote PBooost to get around this problem. (Thanks for the references, tasquah & ernyoka1!) PBooost is really a file manager for the Poser library structure. It makes it easy to move stuff about between folders and best of all:- you can organise your libraries into "banks" of content which can be switched between. So you can organise stuff into smaller chunks/collections and actually find what you're looking for! PBooost includes a shed-load of useful tools... too many to mention here!! Blimey... better get on and do some work!! LOL! Howard:)
