Subject: Upgrading System...any quirky issues with WinXP and Poser 4.03?

Desdemmonna ( ) posted Wed, 26 February 2003 at 8:36 AM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 3:45 AM

My poor, poor Athlon... We (as in my domestic partner and me, LOL)finally decided it was time to upgrade, partially because the old 600 processor wasn't cutting it with newer games and most due to the fact that Poser has literally overtaken the old system. I have personal issues with the use of Windows XP but until I get some cash together to get Win 2K Professional for myself I'll put up with XP. So...as the post heading suggests...are there any odd issues or quirks between Poser 4.03 and related utilities (Tailor, etc)and Windows XP I should be aware of? Bleh...I hate change sometimes. :o)

Nope... dual Athlon, 512MG RAM, XP PRo... runs like a dream. Running ProPack, use Pboost, Poser Loader, Tailor... Best, e.d.

I don;t have an Athlon but XP & poser go very well together. Most software designed for Win98 will work perfectly with XP, the only real problems I've had have been with really old 16bit programs (the ones XP isn't supposed to run).

Thanks everyone...I know its silly but changing my primary OS after all these years is a big step for me :o)

No problem here. In fact, Poser is slightly happier in XP than it was in 98 or ME. One thing to watch for in general: some graphics-heavy applications don't like XP's "visual themes". If you get odd errors, right-click on the app's icon to get the properties dialog, then check "disable visual themes".

I have XPHome (came with the computer) and a Pentium IV - Poser 4.03 works fine. :-) Have fun with your new computer!!

Hi the only thing that bugs me is , and I don't know why or how to fix it(help please!) is that if you try to delete a file you have just been using/created e.g. a wrongly named file or a file created to temperarily hold an unzipped file xp tells you you can not delete this file as it is in use, see below --------------------------- Error Deleting File or Folder --------------------------- Cannot delete New Folder: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- No program in use and only desktop open!! the solution I have found is reboot and then it will let you delete! go figure!! but apart from that I like Xp better than 95 98 or Me or 2000 Dave

My Poser works better with XP. It manages memory better and allows larger renders.

XP has also been better for me. In fact, in situations where I would have had to crtl+alt+del out of P4 under Win98 (e.g., doing a full morph injection on V3), I can crtl+alt+del and watch the CPU usage in the task manager for a bit to see whether P4 is releasing resources, then jump back into P4 when CPU usage backs off from 100%.

Wanderer another way to solve it without rebooting is to use taskmanager to shutdown Explorer then start it up again, works for me but I have no idea why it happens in the first place :)

no probs here either. Poser 4 runs great on my XP :o). Better than it did in Win98 for sure. Laurie
