I posted this a few days ago, but somehow it never made it in. Not sure why it never showed up here. Anyway, can someone tell me what the free Victoria update does? I'm just wondering if it's worth downloading. I have so many Victoria variations on my computer now. Each one installs as a separage figure, rather than just updating the original. One for the original, one for the texture maps, one for the morphs, etc. I have the last one I installed with all the morphs in it and I've set the colors to white (the texture map version was already set to white for me, then the next one with morphs wasn't), and I have everything the way I want it. If I install the update, will it add a fourth (or fifth or whatever) figure to my library? (Is there some way to combine all those into one onto the original Victoria figure?) So, my questions is, is there enough to the free update that I should download it, or can I live without it? I have a puny computer and the space is limited. Melanie

I think you can find a similar tread from last week with complete details of it... Resume: added morph tagets, fixed Shoulder joints, a fix for the eyes(Point AT), etc... When it installs the files, it gives a new name to CR2 files; "Vicki", so it doesn't overwrite your original one! File size: approx. 6 megs :-(

Melanie, here is what I did to tackle the army of Victoria's growing on the hard drive! First off, I did download the updates, since they are worth the trouble. Secondly I took my own Victoria babe I have been slowly painstakingly recrafting, and opened her and the new gal up in Morph Manager and saved her with a name like MyVicki, and then transferred her morphs that I had added over. I also noted any changes to sizes, and other things I had done on a bit of paper, then opened up the new gal, took a few moments to reset her to how I had had my other one set. Lastly I backed up, then deleted all Vicki's I am not currently using, save the lastest plain vanilla one out of Zygote (in the update) and the MyVicki. Cleared up tons of space for me :) Hope that helps.

Hi I have the same problem. I do not want to delete them because one Vicky has brown eyes and one has blue eye and I am not too sure which one is the best because I am new to poser. Me too, I think that I have five or six of them. As I have a 50gig drive, it does not cause me too much problem.

Thanks to everyone's help. I did see that it was 6 megs, and that's why I was wondering what it might have in it. Looks like I should get the update. Bast, I must be really behind; I don't have Morph Manager. I'd better get it for things like this. It would be nice to pare it down to one Victoria. I appreciate all of you. Melanie :)

Just for the record, if I combine everything to the lastest download Vickie, then delete all the others, when I delete the original Vicky thumbnail (I assume by hitting the minus button in the library), that won't delete my original Vicky files with the obj and everything, will it? I'm really nervous about deletilng things. I've had some disasters in the past, so I'm a little paranoid about wiping things out. Melanie

Melanie: why not just copy your subdirectory onto a cd. Then if you have a problem just copy it back. I did that to back up my ever growing bunch of things. I got an updated (faster) computer and just copied the subdirectories from the libraries, geometries etc. to the new install. Worked for me! So now I back up the creations on a cd. When I need them just copy them on, delete them off when I don't need them any more.

If you ONLY delete the character in the Characters library, no, the obj file will still be there. All the character deletes is the cr2 and rsr stuff :) Make a backup if you can of all your purchased things, archive the hell out of stuff. CD's, Zip Drives, even Zip Files spanning several disks like Winzip can make. I find myself going back to my archives of old things very often. I thank the day I bought a CD burner.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Lorraine, thanks for the suggestion. I wish I could do that, but I don't have a writable CD yet. My computer is sadly antiquated. It gets the job done, but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that most everyone else here has. Bast, I had a zip drive, but something went wrong with it. I live on the edge, I guess, 'cos I never back anything up. So far, I've never had any disasters. I do have the original Vicki downloads saved on a separate hard drive, though (I have two hard drives, one of which is partitioned into two, so it appears as if there are three drives), so if anything went wrong, I could just reinstal them. Again, I really appreciate all the helpful suggestions. This is the best place to learn things. I've been using Poser for about three years now (ever since P2), use it almost everyday, and I still have a lot of learning to do. I'm so glad Renderosity exists, for people like me, who are "blondly challenged." :) Melanie

Oh gosh Melanie! Now I feel like a total idiot! You should be teaching me. I only got Poser in oh... late October of 99, or was that November?

Melanie, I have had to learn some things by necessity about my computer because it is either spend the money to get new things or spend it to get the computer fixed. Basically it is just a matter of time and you will get things upgraded I am sure. Prices on things are dropping and that is the only reason I can get more things. One suggestion is to think about building your "replacement" computer. it is not too hard if you have an old one to tinker with. You would be amazed at the savings to learn things yourself. Anyway, you might be doing fine with the separate hard drives for storage. I have two computers actually, one is the older one and the other is the newer one which comes about by the older one spitting and sputtering with my stuff like zip drives and cameras and scanners and printers and all that stuff. So I have a computer network of sorts, the two computers hook together. What I can't get done on one I get done on the other and pass files back and forth. My husband is far more advanced in the area of hardware and he usually assembles the stuff but I have learned it is better to build your system to suit your needs. I have just upgraded the cd burner to a 8x which is great, but I also have a zip and lots of hard drives.... I have used poser since 2 but I was not very good at anything but bendy weird people, until poser 3...and this forum. So I have learned so very much from everyone here...thank you thank you. Bast it is all a matter of investing time, I have had to learn stuff about graphic programs at the same time I was learning more things about artistic technique. I just kept looking at what others were doing and asking questions. I used to train horses and when people asked me how to get to be a good rider I always said: "it takes a certain amount of hours actually doing something to get good at it, if you spend 4 minutes a day you will eventually reach each level but if you spend 10 hours a day it will only appear to be faster, it is all the same investment." I think everyone has the potential to do things, they have some natural talent in different areas but it also takes skill and technique that can only be learned by investing the time doing.
