Hi folks,

This Head texture isn't quite finished yet. I realize the picture isn't great for a serious evaluation but I think it's ok enuf to get a few opinions to see if I'm on the right track. I'll post some better detail shots when I tweak a few things yet. It's pretty close to done, no eyelashes applied obviously. I just wanted to post a quick picture before I crash for the evening.

The splotchiness on the cheeks is a weird side effect of lighting or something, not on the texture. If I made it available for sale, would anyone be interested in this? Yes? No? Maybe? Take a flying leap?

I think its great! Thing I have problems with is where the head map meats the neck. I can see the line on yours. I think people would buy it.

Pretty nice. The head-neck seam is obvious, and there's a seam that's less visible where the front of the head meets the back of the head. It won't matter if he has hair, but for baldness it might be a bit of a problem. You've done a pretty good job of matching up the textures, though I think the under-eye darkness goes too far out on the side of the cheeks, and it looks as if part of the lacrimal gland is visible on the skin around the inside corner of the eye. Mm... and there seems to be some kind of a line across the tip of his nose. That could be just a shadow-rendering bug. Other than that, though, it's very good. I like the way the texture is so consistently there the whole way around the head--especially on the jawline and the ears. I've only bought one thing from here so far (besides the magazine), but I'd expect other people to buy it.

this is fantastic!! i especially like the texture of the ear, very natural with the little veins ... keep up the good work :)) J

apart from the seams that lynn & greenbd pointed out it looks great :)

LaurieA ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 7:43 AM

Very, VERY good. If you can clear up those seaming problems, it'll be awesome! :o). Laurie

It does look great, but I'd love to see a beardless version too as I'm not into male facial hair. ;-)

Wow! That is terrific. Detail on ear is best I have ever seen. You should give him scalp stubble!

This is a really impressive texture--great work! :) (SteffyZZ and Catharina Harders had better hang on to their laurels ;)

i would have to agree. with most all said.. i was struck by the VERY realistic Hi Res .... the facial hair is a good touch. especially for the bald look. as said the onlly detail for those anal about it would be the head/neck seam and it was said truly that it probably would't matter with anything ie.. hair etc.. covering it up are overrshadowing. i'd go for it .

Thanks so far to everybody for your very constructive opinions. Here's a couple more shots. Getting closer, still have to deal with a couple seams yet, but I think I'm getting there, again no eyelashes added. Keep your comments coming it's very helpful.

Same as the first pic, I took some suggestions and removed the lacrimals from the skin, and worked on the dark eye circles. My main concern is the color of the ears. Is the pinkishness too distracting or does it help the realism?

Thanks again for all your helpful remarks.

Patricia ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 1:54 PM

The pinkishness is good, but there's a bruised look to one area at about mid-ear. Otherwise this is a dynamite texture :)

Tomsde ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 3:02 PM

Very photorealistic. I'd buy him if he were for sale provided he has body hair too (I perfer my male textures to be hairy. Is this a texture for Micheal or Don? He definitely doesn't have the typical Micheal look.

lynnJonathan,

Thanks! head meets the neck seams...yup, just working on the head for now, the body's coming.

greenbd,

Thanks for your remarks. The front to back head seams have to be tweaked yet. That always "seems" to be the hardest part! This is my first serious texture and I'm trying to make it as realistic as possible flaws and all. I thought leaving the very tip of the lacrimal on the head map would look ok but I think you're right and I've removed it. I think I've got a good balance now on the shadow's under the eye, sometimes you need somebody else to take a look and tell you what they think so thanks, you're right about that.

jaydiva,

Thanks! I like the ears and had fun doing them, but there probably needs to be some work done yet.

c1rcle,

thanks for the comments, seams are a pain unless you make everything almost a solid color which I may have to do. You should see my Sienna (tiger woman) that was fun!!

LaurieA,

thanks for the words or encouragement.

Daio,

beardless version? ok.....

momodot,

scalp stubble? yer killin me now.

Patricia,

thanks! they say if you want to be the best learn from the best. You're comment on the ears is valid, I may have to tone them down a little.

AKA1,

When I start the body, that head neck seams going to come back and bite me, but it's gotta happen.

Tomsde,

It's Mike 2 straight out of the box. He looks allot like my friend that this is based on. He's freaking out already on how much it looks like him.

Crescent ( ) posted Thu, 27 February 2003 at 5:39 PM

It's definitely getting there. The color between the eyelids and eyebrows is too dark. It looks like an ugly shade of eyeshadow. ;-) My other complaints are the seams and bump map around the jaw - the area between the beard and the ear is a bit strong, though. It almost looks like acne scarring. I prefer textures where I can choose beard or no beard. It makes the texture far more versatile. Cheers!
