THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Thoughts on the challenge and on "accusations"

Claymor ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 1:20 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 10:49 PM

I suppose I too have been accused of "cheating" or at least bending the import rules on the February challenge. My understanding of those rules was - "no imported models." I didn't import any. <> Again, my understanding of the rules was to show off "what Bryce was capable of". In my world one of the most impressive bits of Bryce is the ability to use photographs as textures...whether on an object or as a 2d plane. Which I did do. I don't think anybody was trying to "slander" anyone else or influence voting. I think the comments were meant to clarify why certain folks chose what they chose. Art is and always will be subjective. It is really distressing to me when, on rare occassion, folks start finger pointing here. I have found this to be an incredibly supportive, inspiring, and instructive community. I have always tried to take any comments made in that context. I would hate to see anyone who has put as much work into an image as we all do go away from here because they felt slighted, or because they felt they had had their work attacked in any way. The preceding announcement paid for by the Rodney King "Can't We All Just Get Along" Foundation.

Before you start something that even Rodney King wouldn't support I suggest you go back to the voting thread and read my post further down the page.

Claymor ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 1:40 PM

No,no..I think you took me wrong. What I was trying to say was that I thought there was nothing wrong with your earlier comments. I wasn't offended at all...I suppose I should have written this in reply to electroglyphs post rather than as a new thread. And yes, I did see your further post, thank you.

bikermouse ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 1:45 PM

I've suggested that we start the voting process over, so armed with the new information people can vote for their choices knowing that they were all done in bryce.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 4:31 PM

I mnow you knwo the bikermouse, but for anyone else that missed it; If anyone needs to change their vote, just do so in the the exsisting vote thread, it'll be no prob. Thanks for all the civility...;o) AS

I echo the fact that the challenge was about "what Bryce was capable of", "Purely Bryce, no models or meshes imported from other programs", "A pure Bryce render" and so on. I take nothing to do with religion so when I first read about the challenge "God of Bryce" it irritated me. The description of God will differ from one person to another. In my case it meant Peace with no religion attached to it. Peace to all, ttops.

tjohn ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 9:09 PM

Maybe a few "How did you do that if it isn't a mesh?"'s when someone first posts their pics followed by a few screen shots by the artist would help prevent this problem in future challenges which limit resources. It seems a little bit late after the voting begins. Just a thought.

Posting screen shots is a good idea but I wonder if that might be a no no with renderosity considering the bandwidth it would take up. Mind you not every challenge stipulates Bryce only so perhaps once in a while it would be ok. Oh and "Bryce Rules" BTW. 8P Catlin

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 02 March 2003 at 10:49 PM

There no problem with bandwidth on Renderosity's side at all. The only restriction is that the forum won't allow individual pics over 200kb. I mean, we used to have the challenge pics all in one single thread, equalled around 2-3mb. So if anyone ever wants to show a bunch of screen shots, it's fine. AS

And I meant only after someone has questioned whether an element of the artwork was not following the rules.

Ock tjohn can't we just post them anyway? 8P

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 6:26 AM

I have a question that is totally OT, can someone tell me what the 8P smiley stands for. I keep using it but don't know if it's an insult or a funny, and if you know of a site that tell what all the smileys and abreviations mean I'd be ever so happy. :D Cat

Thanks for the link Creations it a useful place to know about. OK, so I'm sticking my tongue out whilst wearing glasses, close enough to the truth. Can't see without them.

Catlin: I was addressing the problem of waiting until the voting starts to mention possible problems with compliance with the rules. Of course you can post anything you want to with your images.

Ignore what I say at the moment tjohn I'm just seriously tired, haven't slept and still have things to do.

Quest ( ) posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 8:06 PM

In my case, I had no idea that my artwork was entered into the challenge. I logged on and saw that AgentSmith had posted the "Do your Challenge Voting for February in Here!!!!!!!!!" thread and I began to read down the thread until I got to Doublecrash's post where he kindly made honorable mention of my entry by saying it "...didn't fit in the monthly challenge topic". I then went to the challenge link to see, that as I had suspected, a Bryce gallery entry I had made weeks prior had found its way into the monthly challenge. I immediately saw this as mistake and addressed it as such by suggesting the withdrawal of my piece. It was an honest mistake and nothing more.
