Subject: V3 + Mutiple Character Memory Suggestions?

mako_dap ( ) posted Tue, 04 March 2003 at 10:32 AM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 12:28 AM

I'm having some issues with V3. I have 1gb of RAM and have never had a problem placing mutiple characters in a scene using POSER. But when I include a V3 character and try to render, I get all kinds of messages like "can't find texture, bump maps, low memory" which tells me I don't have enough RAM to handle it. I can render the same V3 characters by themselves, but once I introduce other characters, forget it. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to how I can reduce the the impact V3 has on my RAM. Can I simplify the dials once I have locked down my character to reduce the size? Any help or feedback would be appreciated... maybe I'm overlooking something. Thanks

the low memory error is a standard error for when the rsr file for your character in the geometries folder has become corrupted, all you need to do is close poser delete the file & restart poser, If it can't find textures it usually means either you don't have the textures or it's looking in the wrong place, poser4 will try to find them but Poser5 will probably just crash. Bump maps are a bit more difficult, if you're using Poser4 then the bump file is probably a jpg with a b in the name & it needs to be converted, Poserpro & poser5 will use the jpg file. If you get the error when using a matpose you'll either need to edit it in notepad to change the reference to the texture from .bum to .jpg or vice versa. if you have a lot of files that give you this problem you can try CorrectReference by Hogwarden, it'll do the whole lot in one go (it's hosted on the netherworks site).

Just note that it is only P4 that makes and uses rsr files. Pro pack and Poser 5 does not. But the "out of memory" IS indeed a genereic Poser "help I've fallen and can't get up" message.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

Thank you for the info. I will try your suggestions. However, my confusion is that when I render any one of my characters seperately, they all work fine. All of the textures and bump maps link up without a hitch. When I try and render a V3 character with another Michael/V2 character, I'm having the same result on mulitple computers. POSER either crashes or gives me the various (random) error messages "texture, bump or memory".

One solution (and this may or may not be just what you're looking for) is to use LordsWarriors' Crowd and Army Generator. It works on Mac or PC...
