Well, that's a first. Posertrax.com has exceeded it's bandwidth. 5GB - you'd think it'd be enough. That's quite a bit of traffic for my little site. I usually average around 3.5GB/month of data transfer. Not surprised with all the freebies I've posted this month. Just sorry there not available to get to right now. It will be back up Jan. 1st... Everyone have a safe and happy holiday! Thanks, --Donnie

Donnie old buddy, With all the great freebies you have, I'm not surprised. You might want to farm some of the freebies you've got to other sites, and just link from yours. A number of great people here have unlimited bandwidth, and are very nice about letting you store freebies on their site. Check other threads here for some of these generous souls.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm going to look into that. Possibly setting up a couple free "mirror" sites just for freebie downloads.

just out of curiosity... I'm planning on buying some web space/getting a host in a month or so... There are hosts that have unlimited bandwidth, but the one I'm seriously looking at and that I can afford, offers 30gig. How many downloads did it take...visitors, etc..to polish off your 5gig???? When I look at animations and stuff, I was wondering if even 20 or 30 gig was enough bandwidth.

Dave-So, Even unlimited bandwith has limits...ie if you get really high traffic(probably not a problem when you first start out or if you remain mostly a hobby site) Most unlimited bandwith hosts will charge you for the extra. if you plan to post to free stuff: everytime some one sees your tumbnail it eats up your bandwidth, they don't even have to download.

Dave, It depends on how popular your free stuff is. If you post an animation and let people get to it from here, you'll really increase your band width usage. If you do high res textures for free that really catch on, you could go through 10 gig pretty quickly. Figure the number of downloads times the size of the file to get your bandwidth usage. So a 2 meg file downloaded 100 times is a 200 meg usage.

it doesn't take long, does it ? Donnie's files are around 2-3meg....so he must have been getting quite a few hits...plus the folks just browsing around.

The stuff is definitely worth it, so it's likewise worth the wait. Good going, bud -- always great to see that kind of success!
