it's cold and overcast so i thought i'd put on some music (foo fighters/idlewild/flaming lips ... if you're interested :-P) and this is what came out. These are scans of photos from a few years ago. scanned, levels adjusted and cropped.

I like your music selection, firestorm! I'm still not over listening to Yoshimi... :-) Anyway, to be on topic, these are neato pics. Interesting crop on the first one, too. I like the last one, but the DOF is kind of screwing with my eyes. I dunno why. (*

dude, cool taste! For some reason I've gone back to Dido.... maybe it explains my last couple of pics? I dunno.... Gawd Knows what I'd be showing if I listened to Venom again!!! (btw, they came from about 8 miles away from here.... they did!!! Used to drive around in a battered old Beetle.......) (",) Love the first one, lovely cropping. Not sure about the second, that Old Dude spoils it a bit for me, and the last... well, it's a nice pic, but something about where you've cropped it doesn't tie in completely.... but lovely detail, and the first one really does make up for it!!! 1st and 3rd images definitely rock...I like the cropping and the general "redness" in the first ~ and the third, well...metal and engine parts...what can I say? Excellent! :-)>

the first photo does nothing for me, looks like it has too much compression in it. the 3rd of the trumpets however is a differant story, its a great photo... but i would run a slight unsharp mask on it just to clean it up a bit... try 500%, 0.2, 0

I'm sorry but the second and third to be are the best. Can someone please explain the liking of the third. Is it my monitor or something. But I'm not seing enough to interest me. The third though. Hmmm-That is a neat picture. Bsteph

Do you perhaps mean the liking of the first Brian? I don't view it like "this is a photo of the back corner of a car" For me - I like it as a study of abstract shapes & lines within a field exploring the different tonal values of one predominant colour. But that's just me! :-)>

Aye, it sure is. Been eating photography books or summik? (",)

hi, thank for your comments, about the first i think punkie summarised best above. i took the second because the old guy was around with a couple of younger guys and he was guiding them on firing up the machine he then got this look on his face as if remembering the old days, i know the photo doesn't show it but thats why i took it. the third is a cropped version of the four trumpets but there is rubber tube obstructing part of the fourth trumpet so it got cropped out. the music's still on the stereo :-)
