The 'Bo derek' hair recently posted in freestuff might work, and the 'project Lara' over at animotions has some very nice hair in a single long braid. Also, Maya did some dreadlocks not long ago. Thorne made a posable braid that is very useful. If you need links, I'll look them up for you. Not sure about African clothing, Willjen had a Zulu warrior character in freestuff, but his site has been down for quite awhile now.

Darkworld also has an African Pincess braided hair here in the marketplace for $8. I bought mine as part of a 3-princess set at a really good price.

check out Brycetech's store here in the Market place he has some tribal clothing and long braid hair.

Has anyone ever made an actual braid that's composed of 3 strands? I'm not a modeler, so I don't know how difficult it would be, but all the braids I've seen so far are fakey-looking up close, because they aren't actually braided strands.....?

Thanks to everyone who has suggested places to buy braided hair and African cothing. Just one more question. When I was looking in Bryetech's store I noticed that most of his models siad "PC only". I use a Mac and know that Mac's can read all types of PC files. So is this true for these Poser models?

You'll just need Maconverter to convert them. Macinstaller will then automatically place them in the correct folders :) URL attached
