For those of you that don't have Photoshop, there have been a few places you could get a great 2D editor. I have always suggested either "Project Dogwaffle" or "Gimp"(still do). Another amazing 2D editor has been "CinePaint", although not until now, it has not been available for Windows Operating Systems. Well, now the Windows version has finally been released. Here is a basic description from the site; --------- CinePaint is a free open source painting and image retouching program designed to work best with 35mm film and other high resolution high dynamic range images. It is the most popular open source tool in the motion picture industry -- used in Scooby-Doo, Harry Potter, Stuart Little and other feature films. CinePaint is used for painting of background mattes and for frame-by-frame retouching of movies. CinePaint is available for Linux, Macintosh OS X, Windows, and other popular operating systems. The extended 16-bit color range of CinePaint appeals to 35mm cinematographers and professional still photographers because film scanners are capable of greater color bit-depth than can be displayed on a monitor or can be manipulated in typical programs. However, CinePaint is a general-purpose tool useful for working on images for motion pictures, print, and the Web. CinePaint supports many file formats, both conventional formats such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and TGA images -- and more exotic cinema formats such as Cineon and OpenEXR. CinePaint is free software. The generosity and commitment of its developers, users and sponsors make CinePaint possible. ----- So, yes it is FREE, period. Around a 4mb download. I've got it and will be messing around with it, see how much this can be used with and for Bryce. AgentSmith

"Progect Dogwaffle 1.11b" Some of the most unique filters I've seen. Worth getting for the flare generator alone. Retail 1.5 version available here at Renderosity; http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=14994

I have the free version of Project Dogwaffle, and I think it's really worth a try, it can do marvels if used right. Then, if you go and check rohi's gallery and see what wonders he's able to do with it, you may feel encouraged and/or discouraged in using it anymore :-) LOL! It depends on how you feel in that moment...

LOL...yes, it's a little difficult having to compete with the likes of rohi but we should all try our hand. Thanks for the links AgentSmith, good post.

You know, it always pays to use free tools like cinepaint if the 'industry' thinks they're cool - instant kudos for your resume/portfolio!

One of the things that interests me; 16-bit image files. Holds more color info than all the 8-bit images we all use. And, I have been wanting to work on Bryce terrains in Photoshop (or similar) at 16-bit, instead of stuck at 8-bit, since Bryce's Terrain editor WILL load 16-bit images. So, that is what is on my immediate agenda with Cinepaint, we'll see if it makes any difference... AgentSmith
