well I couldn't stand it any longer....everytime I went to the toy store it kept calling my name, "Jack, buy me, take me home". So in a moment of weakness, I relented. I faltered. I gave in. I bought the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer. I've been getting some really good refferals on it so, I went ahead and picked one up. now I just have to take some pictures that are worthy to be printed on this thing. Anybody with any experience with the 2200, any pointers you might have about them would be appreciated! Jack

I have an old 1270, and have been very happy with it, Need to remember to print SOMETHING every week, or heads get clogged. As I remember, the 2xxx series uses the pigmented inks with the archieval (200 years) lifetime? Hope you have lots of fun.

We had quite a debate about this a while ago, but I still think the Epson printers like to see 240ppi scans (rather than then more traditional 300ppi).

Yaaaaaa! Now I don't feel like the only one who bought a 45 pound printer! I own the Epson 2200 Myself an I must say it is the best thing in the market. The only issue I have is having to buy six ink catridges at $17 each! that only last around 40 pictures at the best settinng. Wow? only 40!! stingy me! But 8 x 10 now are going for $2.50 each so 40 is $100 and 6 inks @ $17 is $102.00 plus tax and if you have to order it is like another $20 on shipping. 200 years of storage life? thats like serving 10 life sentance you know your not gonna make it through... I hate it and love so I will just say I love it more than I hate it. They also have a special epson ink that gives you that silverish platinum look for your black & whites very nice stuff at $50 a kit for like 20 pictures, hard to find. maybe could check on e-bay... Now lets see those pictures! :O)

oh yeah and then the cost of paper... Make sure you get the compatible paper or you will waste alot of ink! trust me some cheap papers run and run. Spend a little extra and save alot!

Wow congrats!!! I just looked at this one. But decided I am not a pro so I couldn't justify the cost. BUT the resolution of is it 2X mine. Can we see one pic... just one I want to behold the output just once! Bsteph

Jack!!!!! I hate you!!!! I'm so freaking jealous....trying to get hubby to buy one for me for my birthday... Actually I love Epson printers....and I've been mostly happy with my Epson 870. It would be my thought that the ink consumption would be more economical...since you are replacing individual inks and not the whole cartridge when one color runs out....which happens to me all the freakin time...such a waste.

I am, therefore I create.......

that's ok Michelle, I hate me too when I look at how much the darn thing cost. I just hope I can sell enough pictures to at least break even on it eventually. I've only printed one pictue so far and I was pleased with the outcome. The 13" x whatever format is a big plus. I think it says max is 13"x44" is the limit. However I don't think that is a problem as I really don't intend to go any bigger than say 12"x17", 14"x 19" anyway. I'll let ya'll know how it does on some other stuff I'm going to print in the next few days.... Jack p.s. Tell the hubby what a wonderful investment it is in the fact you can save photo lab costs and get comparable results in images!

I'm not sure on the re-filling part, do they have light black and magenta refills? I have not even bothered looking just buy the new inks. Besides they are special formulated to last longer since they are acid free.

jacoggins ( ) posted Sun, 16 March 2003 at 1:11 PM

Bio, yes the printer uses 7 cartridges, although I guess you are referring to refill-it-yourself kits, I have'nt looked to see if the light magenta, light cyan, and light black are available in the do it yourself kits. the archival span is supposed to be 200 years using Epson paper and inks, although I'm not gonna hang around that long to see if they are right....
