Other than a pull-tab, this is looking very good.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

The can seems a tiny bit short to me, but the shape is terrific. If you are wanting logo suggestions, there is Slurm from Futurama, Sparky Cola from Andromeda, and Blue Sun from Firefly. Lin

nice logos lol, thanks! this texture i made in ps, pretty simple-just un example. but i'm looking for some photo textures (coke or pepsi). maybe someone has a scanner or can send me a link. :)

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2003 at 4:31 PM

there's also a 'Loki-Cola' font that looks very similar to...uh..a famous brand..should be out on the web on several sites..;)

treemont ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2003 at 5:19 PM

i also prefer coke, but both are bad for you, lol show me i tried 'Loki-Cola' and it will go well with 'Sparky Cola from Andromeda' logo :)

It'd be cool if you could find an ol' Jolt can for reference. :)

I have a scanner, but I don't think it would be of much use... but, if you want, there's a coke can model at 3d cafwhich ships with a very good TIFF tex. You could use that. I "rusted" it in one of my last postings. As for Coke-Pepsi, I'll go with antevark under the Coke banner. Pepsi is horrible. C'mon, let's start a flame "cokers vs pepsiers". We already put our efforts in "purists vs importers", we really can (pun intended) do it. Ok. I'm rendering a two-days sucker, it's evident. I have too much time on my hands. Now I'll cole off. coke person here. and maybe its just me but the logo feels like its a (mirror image of what it should be). It feels backwards to me. I might be wrong so don't shoot me. I haven't got any reference materials here to go by. Ang

ok so far: coke (4) pepsi (0)

pauljs75: never tried ol' jolt
DC: thanks, the can from 3d cafe is good, i was coming along with mine too (didn't finish the top though, kinda hard :( mine is on the left obviosly

what i meant is to unstick and scan a label from a plastic coke bottle or something :)

well, now i'm looking for some pizza texture... and yes it is for another "good movie is on.." hehehe, i had some requests for food.. [:-)]

antevark ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2003 at 8:30 PM

negative metaballs would do that fairly easily- flatten a metaball to the right shape, then hold shift and clik on the metaball icon in the create menu to create negatuve MB's

treemont ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2003 at 8:50 PM

thanks antevark i'll try it and pauljs: i checked the jolt site looks like powerful stuff :)

antevark ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2003 at 10:45 PM

oh ya, once at a party i drank like 2 litres of jolt.... I DIDNT SLEEP FOR 3 DAYS

Doublecrash ( ) posted Sat, 15 March 2003 at 5:51 AM

Yep, I thought to scan a label, but IMO it wouldn't apply to a can. They're really different, at least in Italy. By the way, you did your can in Rhino? I'm seriously thinking about finding a used copy to begin modelling something...

Ok, I've scanned the label of a coke bottle. It's the Italian one, so dunno if it's useful, but I achieved a pretty good quality/compression ratio. Just click on it and save it (it's some short of 200K). Stefano

Just out of curiosity, what does "Analcoolica" mean in English?

wow, thanks DC, Italian Coke!! it's wonderfull, i'll use for sure!!!

Doublecrash ( ) posted Sat, 15 March 2003 at 1:05 PM

"Analcoolica" means without alcohol. It's mandatory by law to state if a beverage has alcohol or not in it. Here is quite different from the US, everybody can buy alcohol, children included, in every supermarket and in every store, without any limitation. I don't think this is right... but, ok, this is not the place to discuss such things... :) Stefano

Treemont, The soda can is looking good. :-) Glad I could help you with your modeling questions over in the Rhino Forum. Here are two quick and dirty Bryce test renders of the soda can model I showed you in your Rhino Forum post. Enjoy. To created the label on the can model I actually cut the top and bottom off of a Coke can and unrolled it. I taped it down to a piece of cardboard and scanned it in expecting to have to clean and edit the scan in Photoshop. However, the color distortions created by the aluminum's reflective surface were so great that I gave up and just traced over the scanned image in Illustrator. Luckily I already had most the fonts that I needed. The text stamped into the top of the can was drawn as curves in Rhino3D and exported as an Illustrator file. After a little editting in Illustrator the text was saved as a bitmap which was then applied as a bump map in Bryce. A version of this model was already used in an illustration I completed for a client, but I have an idea for a strange little still-life I'd like to try with the can and render in Bryce. If I get it completed I'll post it in this forum. Oh... and hello to everyone else here in this great little Bryce Forum. I've been a lurker here now and then. :-)

yer a brave person..I wouldn't let anything sharp and metallic lie on the top of my scanner (well, the missus', hence the caution..;) welcome to the club..drop by anytime..we're always open

Pakled, I sanded the sharp edges of the aluminum to smooth and dull them before placing the unrolled can on the scanner, and believe me, I was careful. :-)

treemont ( ) posted Sun, 16 March 2003 at 2:09 AM

wow, the render looks too good to be true!!!

that is a great inpiration for me, so i won't get settled with the '3dcafe' can, but finish my own! :)

thanks a lot!!!
