Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
P3dO is my most important Poser util along with Morph Manager. I use it every day. Invaluable. Thanks yarp for developing and maintaining it. And a special thank you for adding the 'memory' to the pattern renamer! It works perfectly. I have a thought about the way P3dO opens - depending on the way I open it, it looks different. If I double click on it, or I double click on an associated file, or drag a file to it, the way it opens is different - which windows it has up, etc. Is there a way to make it always open with the same appearance? :] Fish
Thank you both of you, of course I take all responsibility for what I said and don't want anybody else in this community to be for Yarp against Curious, or for Curious against Yarp (even less ;). I just know that many people in this community appreciate P3dO and I wanted to tell them it was a real shame.

I meant thank you all, don't have time to reply everybody personnaly sorry. You're rigth thgeisel thank you for all other freestuff utilities. Fishnose, this is because the folder view is hidden when you open PdO throught the shell. Next release has an option to override this : "Close folder view when opening through shell" (you will have to uncheck this).

My 2 cents... I apologize for not saying thank you long ago for your product - It is worth way more than it costs ;-) and is very helpful. As to curious labs - we all know that help[less] desks are useless at 97% of the software companies - perhaps the writers of PWizard, Tailor and/or Pboost could give you a contact name? I wish you luck and hope you get a response/helpful hand soon. And again, thank you.
It's a great application yarp, don't you worry. :) The PNG-RSR converter alone makes it an essential tool for any and all Poser users. Who can figure out what's going through their minds at CL these days anyway? ;) SnowS

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.
Dude, tho CL may not wish to talk to you. I cannot think of a single person that doesn't have your application. In my case i would not be able to get anything done, what for not being able to wade thru the folders as well as you program allows me to. Not to mention all the plugins and support you have given us with this thing and what it does. is nothing short of stellar. On your own you have developed, updated and overhauled this application to keep running reguardless of flavor of poser. and run well. personally, I'd kiss ya for the time and effort you have saved me. you havem IMHO gotten to the point if you were to texture a cube and sell it for 5 bucks i'd buy it on principle.
Yarp. Your P3do is one of the most used in connection with Poser. CL is stupid if they don't recognize that. The sdk? I am not sure but when Jaqui requested it they told him it cost a lot or they wanted to know exactly what it was for. Not sure completely but I will find out. Your program rocks. And even if CL doesn't recognize it, the rest of us do and that's what matters. :)
Geeeh, thanks, thanks a lot. Lalverson, how many polys a face that Cube ? ;) I know I could have made some money with P3dO but a kiss is worth 5 bucks isn't it ? SnowSultan, I don't worry about the future of P3dO, I have great plan for it. But I was just crossed tonight. Now I'm no more with all that unofficial support. Cruzan, no apology, thank you. Yep, I really want that SDK, better that than any birthday present. Stormrage, The main goal would be to open files in Poser from P3dO. I don't know what else I would do with that SDK but I'm sure a lot. In the end you are right what really matters is that community and I'm really proud of being a member of it.

Well, considering that P3dO is one of the most used FREE apps around, I can't understand CL's silence. I've had experiences where I've tried to get something done and it just hasn't happened simply because I wasn't speaking to the right person. It may help to target a specific person at CL and mail them personally. Surely someone in this community knows who deals with this stuff at CL? Or even (faint hope) maybe CL read the posts here. Nah.... that would be too optimistic... I sympathise, yarp. mac
Thank a lot Stormrage, any contact for the SDK at CL would help too. Beryld, I was thinking about the same: That it would be hard to Poser with P3dO but I don't rather fidn thje rest quite surprising. Mac, I may haven't done things properly, probably. That is just the proof that I'm not a good seller even for a free product. I knew that before, I tried to sell insurances some years ago, I'm much better with a compiler. No doubt ;)

Geez Yarp. That sucks. They didn't help me much either with Morph Manager and they even used it to do work on their figures for P5. They did offer to help with getting my new MM to read the compressed files but that was from one of the guys who's gone now. They weren't hostile, just busy but they didn't want to release earlier snap shots of their cr2 files for me to look at. Then again they don't owe me anything either so its not an obligation. I was really really really hoping CL would have put MM out of business. It would have been so easy. They did incorporate Morph Delete but all they needed were a few things like use cut and paste to actually move a morph from one character to another. I know you can do this with the settings.
Curious Labs is comatose regarding customer service as well as promoting utilities that truly enhance their product. Do they require a kickback for sales of other's products maybe? I use Pdo for Vue and can't get by without it. I can't figure out how to use it with Poser yet, being a one-week newbie. Thank you Yarp for generously sharing your your fine program. You're obviously a fine person. For what it's worth, how can I give Pdo an obvious promo on my site www.stefanosdreamscape.com? Is there a nice logo available? ~Steve~
Yarp, Your my main Man!!! When I set up for a render, I go back and forth from poser and P3dO. Checking textures and where things are. I love this program, It does so much, I can't image trying to make a picture without it. Thank you for making it. Because of fat files, I can't use Hogwardens product. Your P3dO helps me look through files I have outside of poser too. It helps clean up the files, so I can see what I'm going to delete. Mason- I love your morph Manager too. Thank you both so much.
Love is Grandchildren.

It's flipping stupid that they don't have your software listed. I know I have it listed on my site and it's prominently featured in a tutorial. I'll have to double check, but I believe I have a page on essential programs and yours should be on it. (If not, I'll go correct it. I completely redid my web site not too long ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still missing one or two things.) Don't ask me, I don't even work there.
Thanks Petunia, better CL doesn't know me than they have something against me. That's what you're pointing out Pakled, no problem about saying what you think. I can bare it all. 1st/ even if P3dO is free this is a real time saver for Poser - it is not the only one ok, but it's a 3 years old product and then it was the only one. It doesn't cost a single buck to add a link on a web page and when my clients are pleased with my products and addons they buy me more. That's the main reason why I think they could have done a little. 2nd/ CL shoud give a lot of money to swallow P3dO, because I remember what happened to 3D Exploration, such a pity. 3D Exploration was far better than P3dO and it is no more a popular project. I will earn much more money managing the project myself. 3rd/ Bryce is the same problem as Poser, even worse. Corel doesn't answer my mails either and the Bryce file format is very hard to decode. Still and that is a good news I will merge Bryce .bmp previews with .br4/.br5 files in next P3dO release. This sure will help a lot. Bryce is one of my priorities, foleypro helped me a lot on this, but I can't announce any futher at the moment.

Yep Netherworks, each new version goes higher. The next one has a new layout with docking Windows - I just finished yesterday, I will post screenshots at SENO next week. Now you can rearrange quite easily the whole layout the way you like, except for the top info panel with is sticked. ...And there is a new "3D" window ;)

P3dO is one of those special and indispensable tools which make using a rather clumsy product (Poser) a lot easier. Without these tools, Poser would never have made it past version 3. I agree with those who say that CL has no concept of how to USE their own product, or how the vast majority of their customers feel. They are TOTALLY out of touch, and apparently prefer it that way. Thaks yarp for all your work, and sorry to hear about your treatment - maybe CL is threatened by someone who actually knows what they are doing! Please don't let this insult by CL affect you, it certainly does not represent the feelings of the community.
I got P3d0 to scan my Bryce files, and I use it for Photoshop and Poser. Excellant utility and I don't know what I'd do without it. Actually I do, before P3d0 I was searching the net for image viewers that had thumbnail interfaces. None out there that did what I wanted. Yours does. Thanks again and best wishes.
I ALWAYS open P3dO Explorer whenever I open Poser - it's the only way to navigate through the tons of files it takes to setup a scene in Poser. I was sincerely hoping that Curious Labs was going to offer to buy your utility and incorporate it into Poser 5. Sorry to hear they have chosen to ignore you. I checked out their Utilities list and nothing against the five they've got listed but I don't use a one of them. Thanks for providing an essential utility for Poser. You've made our rendering days much more productive!
Sounds like your request never got past the suits in the front office. I can't imagine the developers would treat you like that but who knows. A lot of folks like to bash Microsoft but they do provide tons of stuff for developers, most of it free. Too bad CL is being anal retentive. Good luck with it

lmckenzie, I use Microsoft free stuff a lot it's true they provide valuable free tools. Among which the P3dO help system. The best is their own help system. My turn to say thanks to everyone there for your support. I decided to mail to CL again and again till I get some reply. And I will let you know what it is. Anyway, don't bother for P3dO, the project is still going on. My own company is supporting me for P3dO as an image viewer, so the project will go on for whatever happens and as I love Poser there will be Poser plugins. For example last year they paid a student to work on P3dO image plugins : a new image loader, a Twain one and an image converter, these will be part of P3dO Pro the shareware version of P3dO. As you can see it is not only Poser oriented but P3dO freeware will benefit this.

Caly, mainly for technical reasons - it would be too long to explain - a Mac version is too much work. I just can't afford it. You should pray for either Mac being friend with Microsoft again or Java invading the computer market. Illusions, thanks for the mail address I will try it.

Hey yarp I was thinking - something I would really like to have is a library of all the rsr's in all my zillions of Poser folders, on PAPER - as a sort of reference to look quickly for poses, clothes etc. Is it possible to make P3dO do neat printouts of all the graphics/rsr/jpg (or whatever is the best)? As thumbnails. So that it formats to fit on normal printer paper, understands page breaks etc. I suppose that's unreasonable? :o) : Fish
It does it already but not with Page break. I think you get it this way. The problem is that the actual print is just a copy screen send to the printer, printing the whole content of a folder is quite different - and a lot more difficult. There are severall of you that woudl like that feature, I'm currently studying this - as I'm studying many other subjects - so it's not a priority. What I said to me is that you could print the first part of the folder then scroll to the next page and so on. I know it's not a sexy way. I promise I will study this carrefuly but the next P3dO is already full of promises ;)

Fishnose, (one of these days I'm gonna start a thread on where people got their 'net names :-) maybe one of the freeware thumbnail programs might help. If all your Poser thumbs are png's you might be able to get a printed listing that way. Yarp, if you're using VB, you might look at RealBasic (realbasic.com). It's supposed to be "highly" VB compatible, imports VB forms and modules and compiles for both Windows and Mac.

Mac, P3dO is C++ written. The problem is not really about the language but as P3dO is a file manager it heavily relies on the Windows OS. For reading, folders, copy, cut, paste, delete, drag n'drop and many more I use Windows only features - the same as Windows Explorer. As these are the bulk of P3dO a Mac solution would cost rewriting most of it. Anyway, I will take a look at RealBasic it could help me find some clue. Merci, Quixote. Nous on le sait bien c'est qui me met - un peu - en boule ;)
Yarp - author of P3DO Organizer for Poser
Yarp, i just installed the latest version of P3DO and noticed the Borland libraries so I then figured you were probably using C++ Builder. I understand about the Win32 calls. I just stumbled across RealBasic. Don't know anything about Mac programming but it seems like possibly a good solution for cross platform development Poser utilities. I think it does both OS X and older Mac OS'es. There's a product called CodeWarrior that might do cross platform C++ for Mac and Windows. P3DO seems faster than in older versions. Don't know if that little glitch of jumping up 1 in the treeview still happens on my system - I can't remember when it happened :-) BTW, if you don't have the Poser SDK, how did you do the png/rsr conversion. I know the rsr is some form of Mac pict file but looking at one in both formats isn't illuminating. Then hex editing isn't my strong suit. Hey, I found a nice graphics library by one of your countrymen, Pierre Gougelet at http://www.xnview.com. Vive la France!

Hi all, I'm crossed tonight because I just read the Poser newsletter and this reminds me that not all software got the same chance with Curious Lab. I did P3dO Explorer 3 years ago, it was - and I hope it is still - a marvellous tool for managing Poser files with graphic features, explorer style and so and so... As many people pointed out it is unbeleively free, although rich and continuoulsy evolutive. Well, I decided to mail Curious Lab more than one year ago to ask for some support. No money, just technical help and the plugin SDK. I didn't get a single answer in one year. My product is free, all free, the SDK, the advices was for you - as I told them - to add more free goodies to P3dO and they don't even answer. So you can understand I understand nothing to the Curious Lab's policy. What is the problem with P3dO ? What is the problem with me ? What is the problem with free tools ? Isn't P3dO a real top Poser application ? So why isn't it reported in Curious Lab's Poser utility links ? Why ? As I don't have the plugin SDK how can I fight against commercial utilities ? Whatever I feel P3dO will go on that wasn't the matter of that thread, just that I feel fooled. I wanted to share this with people in this forum as I feel it really unfair.
