Subject: What's your bandwidth usage?

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 15 March 2003 at 3:46 PM · edited Sun, 29 December 2024 at 6:34 PM

I know that most Poser sites eat up massive amounts of bandwidth. Mine sure does. So how does your site weigh in? How many megs is your site? What is your usage per month? How much do you pay for that? (not where, just how much) And yes, I have reasons for asking. Lyrra

Uhm I don't know.... I have a counter that tells me how many people that have been to my site, but it doesn't tell me how much bandwidth they have used. Anyway, my site is on a free server with no limit, so I don't really care :o) (and well theoretically they have no limit, but they CAN close you down if you use it for pure file storage, as that's not allowed. Just make a proper Index.htm and you'll be fine ;o) )

I have about 50 MB of freebies (I host for others) and it pulls anywhere from 4-11 GB per month, depending on how new the stuff is. It's part of my whole site, I have 3 domains, my total cost is about $30 per month. :] Fish

Last month, ~27 Gig of transfer for 17 domains. A variety of domains, but most of the transfer is for free stuff downloads here and elsewhere. ~2.5 G of storage used. Fishnose makes a good point, free stuff seems to average about 1000 downloads the first month it's up, so a gig of transfer per meg of stuff. I exceeded 57 Gig of transfer one month, mostly due to a couple of very generous and talented free-stuff makers. Pay $100 for a dedicated server with 400G transfer capacity.

~32 gigs per month for over 2 years recently I removed many of the downloads...so it should be about 1/2 that now. BT

107MB right now in storage. I have 10-20MB still to put up. I hosted Netherworld's V3/V2 hybrid and was hit with 7GB of transfer in 1 week. I'm making a V3 item that I think people will really like, so I'm expecting to take at least another 5GB hit within the week. jchimim - where are you getting the $100 dedicated server deal? Man, I'd love to go split that with someone! I'd more than double my bandwidth for just $10 more per month.

The freebie server I once hosted belched an average ot 11GB per day. Err, yes, per day - around 5,000-6000 download requests, gusting up to 7-8k when something cool comes out (Duddly's 57 Chevy freebie peaked the system at 35GB of transfer the day it came out.)

Needless to say, the more stuff you have (and the more popular it is), the higher the bandwidth.

heyas; for the last 3 months, it says "2969226" kbytes average. not sure where the cutoff is for m's or g's on that one. that's my domain, which has my main pages, dragon factory pages, downloads, and tutorials. it costs about 360 per year, and it comes with 350 meg of space. i dont pay for bandwidth, but only because i have a grandfather clause in my contract that says i dont have to. i dont have stats for my warped pages, but they're 1g transfer and 50mb storage for 5$ a month.

Well right now my site is about 100MB and somewhere around 2-5GB of bandwidth a month..... less than $10 a month, unless my bandwidth goes crazy. The excess bandwidth is one reason I don't post anything in free stuff any more. For me any way it's easier and more economical to provide a link in a message when something is available. Ed

I dare not look - but I'm ground at both domains for the moment so it must have been HIGH sally

Alihahd ( ) posted Sun, 16 March 2003 at 5:41 AM

Usually between 20-25 GiG per month. I habe about 80 meg on downloads and 300 Images in the Galleries. I pay 45 Euro (near the same in $) for 1 GiG Space and 50 GiG Traffic per month. German Hosting Service. Ali

Dizzie ( ) posted Sun, 16 March 2003 at 6:42 AM

I use about 300-320 MB space and run between 32 & 36 Gigs in bandwidth for the month for $215 a yr......I got my site back when unlimited bandwidth was still around so it doesn't cost me extra.....now that I want another domain, you can't get decent transfer usage for a set rate....:>0
