IMO a tutorial is there to teach you how to do something, teach you how to do it on your own, with your own little additions, if you follwed step by step the tutorial and made the whatever, and are now wanting to sell it I would say don't. What you should do is use what you learned from the tutorial and make it again, and then if it is good enough then sell that one. But I do not think that there is any thing 'wrong' with seelling something made from a tutorial, other then morally that is.

Sure, why not, although i would remake the column with out following the tutorial step by step, adding a little extra to it, make it not so generic or what ever to suit your needs.

To make the problem a bit more visible, an example: We all learned at least one language at school (our native one), so we are not allowed to use the knowledge to use this language comercially (i.e. writing a book), right? Wrong, I say! Tutorials are for learning, and we should aprcieate those who write the tutorials. But if we say we couldn't use that what we learned from them, we can never use anything we have learned. The only thing we can say ist that it might be a bad move to use an object created 100% with the help of a tutorial for comercial purposes, but there is nothing illegal by it, or that schould be viewed as illegal, since this would be the fact with everything someone has learned. And that would be the end of society as we know it...
I don't think it's any difference than if I read a "do it yourself"book and learned how to make picnic tables,I could make and sell those picnic tables unless the book says specifically that I can not. I'd still cange a few things to make it more unique though so long as it didn't conflict with it's function. Tom

I am not too sure if I was clear in my previous post... Go ahead and make it from the tutorial, but I do nto think that you should sell the product that was the direct result of the tutorial (the model that you have after you finished the tutorial) but rather you should go again and make the item with out using the tutorial directly but use what you learned from the tutorial to market.

not really no, but that is going to have to be for you to decide your self...I am not sure of the right words to say it but it is up to your morals (that is not hte right word but almost) Sure the tutorial taught you how to make the column, but would you not feel 100% about it if you took the knowlegde that you gained fro the tutorial and remade the column,...granted either way it is 100% your doing, totally all you, but if it were me and I say follwed the Joan of Arc modeling tutorial, step for step and it turned out good enough to sell as a character mesh I wouldn't do that, I would make my own 'creation' fom scratch with the knowlegde that I gained from the tutorial to make something to sell. (that tutorial tht I mentioned is here BTW and is a great tutorial http://mr2k.3dvf.com/tutorials/max/tutorials_joan.htm)

Ok gang, after fighing with my bud I bringing it to render so that all of you might help me solve the question that has started the fight. Ok, He went and read a tutorial and now has created an item, but does not think that it should be placed in the store. now I say that we all have read a tutorial at some point in order to learn how to make a texture, hair or any of the many other stuff in the stores on line. So if you make something with the help of the tutorial then it can be sold. He on the other hand feels that if you make a tutorail for say Lightwave and it is read by someone then the person does not have the right to sell the creation made from said tutorial. Even after I have made all the textures. Tell me what do you all think about the use of tutorial and how can one be sure if by using them it is right to make a product for a store with your name on it? thanks and I know that this might break the server. :)
